Go-fast is infamous around these parts
Hi from new member

Just like to say Hi to all. Been checking this Forum for a while – what a great group and what a fantastic place for info!

Had a number of used sports cars way back while in U. incl three Porsche 356's; a coupla XKE conv. Alfa, and some British basket cases. More recently between '97 and 2003 had new 3 diff. Boxsters; a ’99 Ferrari 355 spyder F1: and then a 2001 360 spyder, F1, Tubi; Mercedes SL 500; Commuted the 180 miles to a 2+ mi. road course in Calgary where I tracked all the cars.

Got my silver TT new in ’03 with X50, Factory Aero, split exhaust tips and sport seats.
Also tracked it (carefully) a few times, wearing out the P-Zero’s. But was left with a mixed reaction. The acceleration was Fantastic as it would lunge from apex to apex. unlike the other cars. But the car felt disconnected and couldn’t sense the feed back I hoped for in a sports car. At first I thought it was bc of the AWD, or maybe it was just me. But the car would lean a lot before taking a set, and the way it porpoised, you had to be careful how you weighted it for turn in. But a lot of reading ( here too) reaffirmed that the N.A. spec tall and soft suspension was to blame. Kinda poor for Porsche to under-equip such a potentially great car. But that’s the good news -- Doing even a few things should take this car to the stratosphere.

With so little difference to the new 997, my plan is to keep the TT ( only 12k Km) & maybe improve a few things, for spirited driving and possibly some more DE. So I sure could use your expert advice for a few things. Too bad all I can send you is a virtual beer.

1. I just had the factory sport X73 & stiffer motor mounts installed last week. I know it’s a compromise, but Wow- What a Difference!! Slightly stiffer, this gives way better feedback. ( makes me wonder if I should do the real deal and get tunable coil overs).

2. After studying your threads, etc, I’ve decided to order 8.5 x 19 front and 11.5 x 19 rear with 235 fr and 315 rear Mich. PS2’s.

3. Great 6 Speed threads on wheels! Am seriously considering OZ Supperleggera III; Champion Monolites; or maybe HRE polished 540R (or C20). Like the looks of the BBS RS GT but don’t seem available in that size.

4. Maybe chip it this winter to raise it from 445hp to over 500, with a minimum of extra stuff only for reliability. May change the exhaust but lam ooking for info on actual hp gain.. But this is for another thread and I liked the Europipe - Loud that Zippy ( who lives only 1 mi. away. ) has.

Sry for the length. Here are pics of the car, right out of the box.
Bob

Welcome aboard man... 6speed is amazing with the info and wealth of knowledge from these members! My car came with the ROW suspension I believe the x73 as well, it wasn't terrible and that was stock to me, I have been in a tip turbo and it felt even more disconnected, def a difference but still horrible!IMO go with some good coilovers and sway bars, I am enjoying my car so much right now with the addition of the GT3 sways with my coilovers now, also what made a HUGE impact in its fun factor was going rwd, I highly recommend it.As for the ecu, the exhaust will be a great addition, alone an exhaust with race cats or cat bypass can yield out 30 or so hp and torque, I'm sure a tuner will point you in the right direction, I suggest FVD.. their tuning is awesome and exhaust as well!Martin

very nice! Aerokits are rare.. Welcome. Didn't realize you were Zippy's neighbour. That's a good thing because he's going to be a terrible influence on you...

Welcome,

You're right. The soft suspension does lack the feel needed to be really potent on the track (it's still really good though). I have stock suspension on my car (for the time being...Coilovers coming soon). My friends all have upgraded suspension and all I can say is WHAT A DIFFERENCE!.

Keep the TT and upgrade the suspension and chip it. In addition, get an EVO airbox (the new one EVO designed hasn't made my MAF sensor blow-up like the old one...hope I didn't jinx myself) and exhaust. I have Gemballa exhaust and I love it.

Have fun and be safe.
