Help! Interior R.View Mirror Falls off Windshield
Help! Interior R.View Mirror Falls off Windshield
New Turbo Cab arrives from PCNA with rear view mirror dangling from windshield. Glue/epoxy won't hold. Dealer tries 3 times. PCNA says the only way to properly fix is to replace windshield, which I reluctantly agree to and then it happens again, mirror won't hold. They try epoxy again, and still loose. What do I do next? It's been 20 day since delivery and no TT. Home and back to dealer-100 miles onTT
O.K., so who s doing the work? I suspect that dealers would send the work out to a glass specialist. Is it an OEM windshield? Insist upon that, and/or that they send it to a differnet glazier. In another 10 days you should start talking warranty extension. Your dealer should extend the delivery date. You (probably) do not have a car that can legally be driven!
Dealer replaced windshield. They have a glass expert. New windshield was sent by Porsche as part of mirror package. The mirror attachment piece is put on at glass factory using special process. Windshield is epoxied in completely around. Took a day to get it out. It was OEM part. They did good job, but when they attached mirror, the same thing happened, mirror came loose before I ever got to pick up car. I'm going to ask PCNA to buy back Turbo and order new one.
I have never heard of any manufacturer using epoxy for
the rearview mirror. I believe they use a cyano-acrylate,
like crazy-glue, or a thormosetting polymer. I believe it
is crucial to clean the attachment surfaces with isopropyl
alchohol before glueing. There are different types of
cyano-acrylate, from the very thin/runny to the thicker
'filling' type. That's what I would try.

Actually (at least in ohio) you only need one mirrior so that you can see behind you (as long as he has one good side view mirror, it is legal for him to drive), however, all new cars must have three mirriors.
