Shift Light?
Practice shifting at the point you want while listening to the engine. Before you know it, you'll know exactly when to shift with your eyes closed. (although not recommending closing your eyes).
You'll eventually know exactly what RPM the engine is at just by sound in all gears.

I like to know the answer to this too. The few options that I know of is not great and they are on BMWs. Listening to engine sound is too premitive for me. With the helmet on and window open, it would be much better to have a visual indication.
It's not terribly difficult to roll your own if you have basic electronics skills, or a case of beer and a friend who has them.
I've done custom shift light setups in most of my cars over the years. I usually drill a few small holes in one of the gauge bezels (right near the redline markings on the tach works well), install a few superbright LEDs, and activate them with an RPM window switch, used mainly for nitrous systems.
It's delicate work, but not especially hard.

Here is another option. An audio/visual unit can be added to the Zeitronix datalogger and it can be set to beep and light or just light at a specified RPM. It allows datalogging and optional alarm of vital engine information, as well. Personally, I have not used one...but have one on order.

Loud 95dB audio buzzer with a bright red LED and a relay trigger signals the alarm.
APPLICATIONS
APPLICATIONS
- AFR too rich The alarm activates when too rich mixture is detected.
- AFR too lean The alarm activates when too lean mixture is detected.
- A combination of AFR too rich and AFR too lean alarms can be used to tune for a specific AFR window.
- EGT too high The alarm activates when EGT exceeds a safe user selected level.
- RPM too high Shift-light functionality with a bonus of audio alarm and a relay trigger.
- TPS too high The alarm activates when TPS exceeds a selected level.

You can also use the pill-based RPM modules from Autometer and others, but I find the adjustable models more convenient.
