Oh, just wondering, can you tag, pass emissions, and insure a Cup car for the street?

This is not a knock on Cleve at all but to those comparing a Cup Car to the Gt2 and the versatility of a street car. A Porsche enthusiast can own a GT3 Cup Car; a 996 C4s and tow/trailer setup for the amount of money to build a Gt2 comparable to Cleve's. You cannot compare apples to oranges when making comparison's to a 650 to the rear wheels street car and a 400 hp track car. Just my .02 worth.

I race a 993 RS and have the track record in a race at 1:39:7.
You acknowledge the tires and your amauter driving status. Smart to acknowledge were you are on your learning curve as Gt2's are expensive to rebuild. Driving lessons with a pro coach is a great idea. That is how I've gotten faster since starting.
Steve Johnson is an acquantance of mine and races a 997 GT3 Cup in ALMS and Rolex this year (he's ranked 6th in points). Steve started out racing a GT2 in PCA; moved to a 996 Cup Car and then moved into ALMS/Rolex. He was quicker in his GT2. Check track records at Putnam Park.
A pro driver should get at least a high 1:20's in your GT2 @ Road Atlanta. That gives you a target to shoot for. Seat time and coaching will get you closer than you imagine. Ask Ed as he's picked up 4 seconds this year @ Road Atlanta.
Thanks for sharing the video and keep wheelin it!

Boy would I love to have a Cup car...the only problem is that I can't have both (GT2 & Cup car) and I would not be able to go weeks at a time without driving it. I need my adrenaline hit almost daily, and the GT2 is my drug of choice.

Dhinkle, I think all we are saying is, it's neat that you can take a GT2, put a 700 kit, transform the suspension with motons and have a daily D, that you can run 10s in, run some good lap times (and yes hang with some track-orientated cars) and listen to the radio whilst having the AC on... It's sorta like having your cake an eating it. If Cleve wants a dedicated track-only race car then I'm sure he'd go that direction but then again having a jack of all trades car is fun.

Cleve:
Nic is an exceptional driver. He has instructed me at a Panoz race at VIR. I think he is the most knowledgeable racer that I've met and can drive the wheels of a car. A hot lap with him would be incredible and humling for all of us!
Nic would be faster in your car than a 996 GT3 Cup. Check Leh Keen's track record driving a prepared turbo at Road Atlanta.
To the comments on the element of Cleve's car being fast on thet track and also a street car, I agree it's awesome. The only point I was making is that you cannot compare a Cup Car to a Gt2 related to the points that were brought forth.
I am the guy that's talking to the guy in the paddock racing a 924 as much as a 996 RSR. We're all lucky to have a chance to get on the track (DE or race) and enjoy our favorite German cars!

Using your analogy, there are loads of instructors, some good, some bad and some arrogant. Cleve can obviously drive and I'd like to see you do better in a GT700 GT2... Have you ever driven a GT700 GT2?
I have never driven a GT700 GT2. I have driven a 2001TT at Road Atlanta with about 530HP. This was my track car before I bought a Cup Car.
If you would like to see me do better in a GT700, lets pick a test day with Kinetix later this year. I'll let Cleve drive my Cup Car and I will drive his GT2. We can make arrangements beforehand regarding damage due to overrevs or accidents.
If Cleve does not have data acquisition, I would suggest a simple AIM system which I think installed is $3K or so. This would provide good data to him in the long run even for DE use.

I can assure you that a 530hp 996TT and a 750hp GT2 are two COMPLETELY different cars in all aspects. You may want to reserve comments until you've personally driven one of these things. It will leave a big smile on your face!!
Cleve,
you did a fantastic job of modding your car and keeping it steetable and
amazingly capable at the track (strip, and a wonderful road course).
My goal at my home track (Brainerd Intl Raceway) is the be the fastest! car
DRIVEN TO the track, and I am getting very close! My final event in
September will tell the truth. Then more mods this winter...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
