Lack of linearity with stock clutch

So, I have this embarrassing little problem with my 05 TTs coupe. When leaving a stop light, because of the way the clutch holds, I am finding that I either slightly bog the motor or over rev. I have never experienced a clutch with the ‘feel’ of the TT.

If I upgrade to a new (ie., Sachs) clutch would this problem disappear, stay the same, or get worse?

Bobby. You better stick with the stock clutch as it is dramatically more progressive than a LTWF/Stage 3 combo. BigBadBen's clutch https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ghlight=clutch is a different matter though. Very progressive and can hold big power.

It's typical of all diaphragm clutches.

i never really got used to the stock clutch.

the sachs 2 (w/ lwfw) was a ***** to break in but i got *very* used to it. i loved it - a dramatic improvement over the stock clutch.

the sachs 3 - i can drive it but it's nowhere near as fun as the sachs 2. yes, it snaps your neck when you powershift; but it's not much fun drivng around the city. you can either baby it and take off slow; or you have to commit to a very fast launch - there's not much in between.

I think I recall reading on the forum--although I can't find it using 'search'--that the GT2 clutch can be used in the 996tt and has a much better feel than the stock Turbo clutch...anyone know if this is correct?

The GT2 uses the same pressure plate. The disc is a different part number but I doubt if the feel is different.

The feel will remain the same- Regardless of what clutch you use-

The issue is that the clutch is assisted via a pressure accumulator- GT2 and GT3 are not - hence the different feel.

We have a clutch kit- that uses Sachs race engineering components-
Upgraded clamping force on pressure plate- Gt2 style disc. and all the other parts needed..

However the feel- will be the same.

So the only way to get rid of it is getting rid of the assist in the clutch system........

Bobby,

Like Zippy said a triple disc is the business if you want a very progressive clutch set-up even with a LWFW like I have, its easy to drive and can hold buckets of TQ. The only downside is it's not cheap..$6K parts only. My set-up also does away with the hydraulic assist so it is like a GT2 now, about 30% more effort involved in depressing the clutch which I don't mine at all. I am very happy with my setup.

The pressure plate on the GT2/X50 (and GT3) has a different part number than the Turbo, at least here in Europe...

Does anyone know if the GT2/X50 clutch kit has springs or not? Is the lining different?

X50/Turbo S has GT2 plate but same assist as Turbo. When my clutch goes a little more bad, I'll go to a complete GT2 setup or stage 2 Sachs. Key is getting rid of the assist.
