Taking the TT drag racing for the first time
I have never done a 1/4 mile run before. I was hoping some of you experts
might give me a little advice on launching. My car is a stage 4 what would be a respectable time for a first timer and what kind of MPH should I be
doing??
Thanks in advance for any input.

Congrats on taking the plunge! All cars are different as well as track and conditions. My opinion is for a first timer to vary the rpm's from around 2600-3000 to see what your car likes. Try to avoid wheel hop, not very healthy for driveline components. Just have fun, the fact you are going is the important part. My guess is 12.1 around 119-121. Good luck and keep us posted. Kevin
I was drag racing a 996TT stock with 19" Champion wheels a few weeks ago in montreal. I launched it Via 5000rpm and slipping the clutch. This netted a 1.72 60' and a 12.4@114mph without powershifting. Seemed to work pretty well, I was impressed with the 60' even on 19"s.
I got a 1.7x short time in my factory stock 996TT and ran 12.2 @ 117MPH. I'd say with a stage 4 you can run a mid 11.
EDIT: Forgot advice. I'd stay with OEM tyre pressures and try launching between 3500 and 5000 RPM in 250 RPM increments. Slip the clutch hard on the launch and moderately on the 1-2 shift. I aimed to short shift 1-2 and 2-3 because the soft revlimiter comes up very quickly indeed. I did a 1-2 second "burnout" to spin off any water or debris. Remmeber to turn PSM and air con off!

After over-revving the first time and smoking the clutch, I tried a bunch of low rpm launches. My launches sucked, but I worked my way to a 12.34 at 119. I figure I could have brought it down a few ticks if I could get the damn thing off the line.
By the way, this was probably the first time I launched hard in 1st gear in about 3 years.

Dragging...
Last time are local Viper club went to the drag strip these tire burning
fools could not get into the 11's.
Next spring I will show them the way
