It's the once rolling straight line performance that's going to be a little bit closer in the Z06 against the normal 996tt. For standing starts however the normal 996tt gets a nice time discount due to magazine driver 5000 + rpm, four wheel drive launch. The Z06 has traction limitation on the stock tires from a standing start.

Both the stock base 996tt and stock Z06 seem to put about 350-360 HP to the ground, except the Z06 is about 400lbs lighter. In my opinion if a group of average drivers/owners were testing the cars we would see the Z06 out accelerating the base 996tt, but have the base 996tt prevail for track performance.

I'd say the differfence is related to theTurbo's AWD and 1st gear ratio.

The turning force available at the wheels is equal to FWHP x overall gear ratio minus transmission losses. The Turbo is better geared in 1st by a large margin, but 2nd gear very close to the Z06's 2nd gear. The Turbo has a slight gearing advantage in 3rd, and a bigger advantane in 4th.

As for weight, there are several magazine test article examples of Turbo's around 3500 lbs and Z06's at 3270-3295 lbs, just a 200-230 lb difference. My Turbo weighs 3485 lbs.
