Corvette Mag 996TT X-50 Vs Z06
SubscribeHas anyone seen the March issue of Corvette Magazine? I dont usually look at it, but i noticed today that on the cover they had a Z06 along with a Porsche TT.
After reading the article, they give the Porsche some props, which suprised me after mentioning that the Porsche costs 3X the Z06's price over and over. They went as far as to call parts of the vette cheap, and that it developed rattles.
In performance, the Porsche beat the Z06 11.9@120 to 12.3@117. In their minds this was very close, in my mind, hardly.

Very true. Im not a fan of the Z06, but have to give it props, not bad for the money.
Read it too. It wasn't too bad. The biggest thing they did not discuss was reliability. We kill the vette there. But, at 1/3 the price, they have a SUPERIOR value to us, no doubt about it. And, our performance difference should be greater for an extra nearly $100K.

How much difference in your opinion? And, our performance difference should be greater for an extra nearly $100K.
Is there a "performance to dollar" formula?
I was in a Barnes & Noble bookstore today and happened to stumble upon the same magazine. I to was impressed that they did not put down the performance of the Porsche. How will would the standard 415 hp turbo be up against the Z06?

Funny, but I recently traded my tuned Turbo in on a GT2. A friend of mine came by this afternoon and he just let me try his Z06, I would say that it was very competive with a Turbo, but the GT2 seems much more edgy, in terms of feel and ultimte speed.

I think cost (and price) increases exponentially relative to performance at the high end.Originally posted by Dock (Atlanta)

Close performance for the times? Well, FWIW, Road & Track, in its time trials, considers .3" or less not to be a significant difference. Explanation is not provided, but it's probably due to the vagaries of the testing environment, including consistency of launch, keeping in mind also that this is comparing time trials under varying conditions. So, I guess a .4" difference could be considered close. Can't believe it would be "close" in overall performance & handling, though.

I have that issue . The C5/C6 engineering team , including chief Dave Hill stated in this article that they bought a new " stripper " X50 Turbo to benchmark the coming C6 Z06 , opting to skip the shockingly high priced cosmetic options. They said they would like to copy the X50's creamy smooth shifter and clutch , but with shorter and more direct throws. They didn't like the X50s steering feel , but that's probably due to the AWD. They were much impressed with the AWD's ability to put the power down out of the hole and around slow corners .
