Hello, I'm new to the Board and was in your situation not long ago. I have loved Porsche Turbo's since the '94 3.6...my love affair only continued to heighten with the 993TT and of course the 996TT (and yes initially, the 997TT). Having been an "M-Head" for almost as long, I was looking pretty hard for a Z8 but the "right car" never surfaced, not to mention the frame scare currently being endured by Z8 owners.

I acquired my 996TT a couple weeks ago through fate. I was picking up my truck from detailing. While waiting, I was admiring a silver 996TT being finished off in the front of the shop. I commented on the car offhand, and the shop owner gushed that despite being a 2001, it only had about 14,000 kilometers (±8,800 miles), was crazy-mint, had just been picked up by a local all-makes dealer on a trade up to an F430, and would likely be for sale soon. Bemused, I asked which dealer it was, only to find out it was the same guy I've bought my last few cars from!

I dialed him up on my cell and said "so...I'm looking at this 996TT at the detailing shop..." to which he burst out laughing. We had a deal two hours later.

The car is mint, local, no accidents, low mileage, Meridian silver, all books up to date, perfect inspection (well, it needed new wiper blades!!). Just goes to show: if you commit to noticing these opportunities, they'll present themselves.

I am thrilled to death. Go for it, you won't regret it...listen to your gut and take the plunge!

I myself am looking forward to the Porsche ownership experience, particularly of the forced-induction ilk.

Next up, a few mods.

I also look forward to enjoying this Board. Cheers!

I would def listen to markski on this one, and pretty much any advise he would have for you with regards to Porsches. hes quite knowledgable and wont steer you wrong.

As the others said, go buy another car, honest! People who buy Turbo's don't need to be convinced, as Porsche says: "There's the moment you know you want one and the moment you own one and then there's the decade or 2 in between...". Don't listen to what your friends say and filter the real agenda behind some of the advises we get when we talk about buying a "dream" if you know what I mean.

If you're trying to be racional when buying a Turbo, forget it! Be racional and buy a 2004 996 or a 997 or even better save your money and go American, buy Corvette and with the added bonus of being brand new!

My 02 TT was parked beside my brother's 997TT everyday. I've never feel 996TT was out dated. On top of that, we run them at highway. Even mine was only a stage 2, we're just death even. For under 80K you can't find any better car.

Exactly, i was with my friend Sam who's on here today, i really appreciated the 997tt in person more then ever, but my 996tt still holds a presence also, both are gorgeous, not one looks much newer than the other, except interior differences!

Go for it man, then go RWD and never look back!

Difference as in, does it feel faster? Does it rev more freely, and approach redline any quicker? I'm just trying to see the real benefit of going with a LWFW on a 996TT.

Thanks,

Yes it feels faster.. yes it revs much faster and therefore reaches redline quicker. At the roadcourse it is night and day... so much easier to heel and toe and shift in general.I had to do something because the stock unit was not going to take these new turbos and ECU programming very well. Would I add just a LWFW with no other mods?... probably not. Now that it has been installed I have totally forgotten it is in there. My wife doesnt even know its in the car. Also, until you actually hold a LWFW and then hold the dual mass will you realize just how much weight is hanging on the crank. Kevin

Thanks Kevin, that's what I needed to know. I'll probably add a LWFW when I do my Stage 4 mods.
