996tt Prices and Future Values
996tt Prices and Future Values
Just wondering how 996tt prices will be in future, say 2-5 years from now. How much do you think they would depreciate from wholesale value. Have an 02 turbo with wholesale around 70k and wondering what car would be worth in 3 years. I cannot see car going below 55k but was wondering what you guys think. I know the 996tt will not appreciate in value like the 993tt but they should hold their value for their perfomance alone.
I have fun every time I drive it. It costs about $250 per weekend (sometimes for less than 10 minutes).
I'm begining to see why people will spend $1000+ renting an exotic.
As the price of new ones go up, the price of old cars can actually go up as well assuming:
The car is memorable and there is demand (all Turbos are)
something sets your car apart (options, color, low miles, X50, etc..)
There were more 996TTs made than all other turbo models combined. That won't work in our favor.
I doubt we will go below 50K.

I drove car probably 3 times this summer for 10 minutes, just around the block and back. Costs close to 450 per minute, never thought about it that way. Drove car for 30 minutes for basically the whole year and depreciation comes out to about 13k for the year and thats without including all aftermarket parts. 30 minutes for $13,000; one expensive hobby. I do like to look at car in my garage though and that could be factored in as well.
some people blow $400 in 5 seconds... some gamble $10K in 2 hours... I prefer to have a fully paid off 996 tt in my garage... priceless.

I sure hope the values stay high - never know when you gonna sale. As far as driving - I've got 26k miles on my 2001 so doing well there. My 2004 Viper TT though has only 3900 miles! That's high cost per day $$$ when ever driven - hehe!
I think the 996TT depreciation (assuming no miles driven) will slow down, but if they start having miles over 40-45k, they will definitely go below $50k. At a certain point, it will be all about the mileage of the cars irrespective of the year, as well as the options (x50, etc.) which will give it a little bit more value.
At this point, if you plan on hanging on to a car for more than 3-4 years, be prepared for some more depreciation (probably about $5k/yr or so is my prediction for the 01-02 cars..more for the newer ones).

dlm,
aren't you trying to sell your car in another thread.
its sickening but all these cars depreciate, hard to tell how much
over the next few yrs but they built too many. great if your buying used, sucks if you purchased new. if you need to get out do it now, the longer you wait the harder it will be. i had to suck it up with my e55, if i would have waited another 6 months i would have gotten 5k less (likely).
btw your car looks great and is a great deal for someone. this time around for me, i am driving the snot out of the car. even put a booster seat for my son.
no reason to baby a p car because you will still get killed when it comes time to sell.

If the car will only depreciate 5k/year, I will probably keep it. That is nothing for a car of this calibur.
Roy, believe me I am not trying to baby car. I just do not have time to drive it and got a little bored with car after 2 years.
