Back at S Car Go? Haven't been there for quite awhile. I guess I could go just about anytime.

The theroy and design is solid. It offers the best of both worlds when it comes to turbine sides. The size of the turbo used in the 997 is questionable. Like most OEM designed turbos it's size is less than optimum.
I would not be supprised to see 993's & 996tt's fitted with VTN's once size options become greater and a good boost control unit is available. This is the future and it offers a very wide power band when configured correctly.
If a company like Apexi builds a boost controller like the AVC-R for the VTN turbos and the aftermarker responses with larger turbo options for the 997 cross fitting will be a breeze.
The major limiting factor is the inabilty of current materials used to withstand the high EGT's of a performance gas motor. That will continue to change with time.
We have yet to get together. My 993tt project is going great. It would be great to finally sit down and chat.

Does anyone believe a tuned 997tt can hold a candle to a tuned 996tt?

I predict the 996tt's will have cult statis in the future due to the amounts produced and the huge support base of tuners and owners. Mines a keeper, not many vehicles can do all the things the 996tt can and still be pragmatic.
I had a chance to sell my 01tt with 650 hp at the time... but no I decided to keep it and just put 1000 hp under hood...

while the 996tt is moddable, i surely wouldn't call it a tuner's car. your average joe can't go out and modify it. and it takes some fairly big bucks to get, say, 700hp.
my 98 supra was the last of the do-it-yourself type cars. each generation of cars thereafter will only get more & more difficult thanks to our friend technology (and the large companies polluting our planet.)

But yeah I think we all feel the same way. It's like there's a really nice looking woman (the 997TT) in front of you but she's a devout Catholic and has a chastity belt on her and the only way to get it on is to get the key off of her 350 pound UFC heavy weight champion Older brother who suffers from paranoia.

LOL your analogies are endless...
that's why VRalexander passed on the 997tt. he drove it and was not impressed. I agree with him that if they went with 3.8 liter then maybe... Todd K looked into modding it extensively and concluded the same as you....
