Rolex 24 Q? about the lighting and the Cars

Why do some of the Porsche and others have Xenon/HID lights and others have the Yellow halogen, is it owner/driver preference? I know that the yellow reflects the oil or water better but wouldn't the Xenon perform better? And it looks like the Xenon lights are on the newer 911 GT3 RS cars with the new style headlights.

The question about the Cars, Porsche has the
911 GT3 R - Old style Headlight, Racers Group?
911 GT3 RS - Old style headlights but newer model?
911 GT3 RSR - Not out yet?
911 GT3 Cup - New Style headlights and GT3 bumper?

Just stuff I should know but I don't so any help would be great.

The different lights are so competitors can recognize oncoming cars in their mirrors at night. The slower classes usually have a yellow headlight.

I think those are the SGS cars, basically a small step below the GT cars. They run white lights.

that's what I was going to say, that the slower cars would have the Yellow lites, TRG cars etc.

I remember SPEED showing one of the SGS 911s, (last years Kolter/DonKoster car) (sp?) and it had the white/regular lites.
Not nearly as powerful or bright as the DP cars, but they weren't yellow either.

SGS rules allow for Cup cars (no R, RS, etc) and allow for any factory headlight.

GT class R and RS cars are built to three specs (FIA GT, ACO, and ALMS). Some of these spec cars have normal headlights, some have xenon. I think the ACO spec cars have the yellow covers but I'd have to ask. The Cup cars you see running in the GT class are upgraded to R/RS specs but that does not impact what headlights they run. The rules in this class also allow for any "standard production headlight".

My .02 worth...
