Angry Ashtray lid won't stay closed

OK, I admit that this is not a very important issue -- but my ashtray lid doesn't stay closed. It just springs back open when I push it closed. I have to take out the ashtray, squeeze the sides so that the tiny pin will catch on whatever it is that it's supposed to catch on, then gently put it back into place in the console. Seems like it's warped a bit so that the "pin" thing doesn't catch anymore.

I've seen a few pictures of 996tt's for sale that have the ashtray door open for no apparent reason, so I'm thinking that maybe other people may have had this same problem? Does anyone have a simple solution for me, aside from "just buy a new ashtray"?

Thanks tme. No wires, just a clean, open rectangular space. The lid won't stay open after I take it out of the hole either.
