Advice needed on break-in for new TT Cab X50

I just brought home the TT Cab X50 last night that I had ordered last October. The dealer said go 500 or 600 miles before pushing the car. This is less than stated in the manual. As a new 911 TT owner, I am looking for comments so I can decide whether to follow the manual or go by the dealers guidance. The dealer stated prior to their recommendation that "Porsche runs the engines flat out for 45 minutes before putting it in the car" so the break in period is not that necessary.

Thoughts?

I pretty much followed the break-in period in the manual with minimal indiscretion. My car has used much less oil than the typical 911TT (less than 1 quart for first 5000 miles). I know that is anecdotal and does not prove causation but I have heard similar claims from others who followed the break-in.

It is interesting that you mention that. The dealer gave me to quarts of Mobil One to carry as he also stated that it would not be unusual to go through 2 quarts in 800 miles?! Is this normal??? Is that a function of not going the distance recommended for the break in period?

I suspect there are other variables in oil usage than break-in. I suspect others have different thoughts and experiances than mine.
