Question 996TT owners who HAD a 993TT

I was curious, especially after Saturday's event at Carlsen, why
those of you that used to own a 993tt, now have the 996tt instead.

What were the different reasons for you to change?
- the 996tt is the current/newer Porsche
- Liked the 996 more than the 993 style
- More/additional goodies/power
- your 993tt was 'maxed' out re mods

Whatever the reason, please share.

TIA,

Scott

I have owned 2 993 turbos and 3 996 turbos including an X50 car. Each year seems to be faster than the previous year, also the 996 has PSM and is too good, if anything, your grandma can probably drive it as well as anyone. I like the fact that the 993 had frames around the windows and seemed to be more vault like. I also have had a turbo from every year starting with 1976 and they seem to each be better than the previous model as I stated earlier. They are all fun to drive and the best cars made. This is my opinion. Thanks for listening, Dick 757-615-1570

I had a 97 993 turbo for 3 years putting on 30,000 miles and while I loved every mile in that car I would not trade it for 996 tt. The 996 is so much nicer mainly in the cabin. The 993 interior is 20 + years old and it shows. When you are spending big bucks on a car you want the nice interior design of the 996. Just my opinion of course.

My reason for upgrading to a 996TT from my 993TT was an experience I had with my 996 C2 cab.

I upgraded from a 964 C4 to the 993TT. What a difference in power! The handling was similar, but the grip was way higher. I was in heaven.

Then, I bought a '99 996 C2 Cab when they were first available to use as a share-a-ride with my wife. This was possible/practical because it was available with memory seats. She's 5'0" and I'm 6'4".

After I drove the 996 Cab and the 993TT back-to-back over a period of many months, I found myself opting for the Cab more and more often. After a while, I stopped driving the 993TT very much. I didn't see what was going on until I realized I was hogging the Cab.

Why did this happen? The 996 steered better than the 993TT

Every wide-tired 911 I had ever driven (see sig) wandered over road crowns and pulled at lumps in the pavement -- all the time. I thought it was normal, and I got used to it, maybe thinking it was part of Porsche's magic. Until I began to drive the 996!

I began to dislike the amount of fidgeting with the steering wheel required to keep going in a straight line in the 993TT. The 996 chassis completely won me over.

As soon as the 996TT was announced, I went to my dealer as put one on order. Lucky for me, I ordered paint to sample, which delayed the delivery by about 4 months. In that interval, Porsche stopped installing the dreaded (and super ugly) front bumper warts and I received a car that looked just like the press photos in the color of my choice.

I'm really happy.

Now, I've replaced the original 996 Cab with a 996TT Cab. Life is good.

I can't do it like I'm used to. The attached file size limit is down to 5K and I don't have a web site configured to host them.

Sorry.

i'm going back to a 993TT as it is a proven car for ORR. and much rarer -- try finding a good one. 996TT's are like VW';s in LA, even tyson had one [he's knows i'm kidding]
996 IS a better car however but has no edge until you mod it... notice more of you guys heavily mod you 996 than i bet you did your 993's???

Precisely - Porsche doubled TT production in 2001 (to 4000 units)to fill the orders.

I was not prepared to like the 996TT, and had a fixation on the 993TT for some time. When a prestine 4K mile 01 came along, I drove a 996TT for the first time and realized that Porsche MUST have known about every fault that I perceived in the 993TT, and had been waiting for a clean sheet design to solve them- every issue I had with the 993 was resolved in the 996. They did SO much with the air cooled cars over the years, its hard to believe that it all started with a 130hp 1965 car - but its time had come. I do miss the vault-like "thunk" of the 911/964/993's doors though.........

I would KILL to have my 993 back - the interior was dated but the outside was the best yet by Porsche. The clutch was too heavy for my left leg or I'd still be in it.

Maybe the 997 will bring back the look
