About to pull the trigger on a 2003 996TT but worried about the 2nd gear pop out...
I've located my car after months of search unfortunately it looks as I cant get an extended warranty on the car
I'm not worried about the engine blowing if it does I'll just get a GT700 kit
my major concern is the 2nd gear pop out issue on the 996TTs (I really dont feel like spending $10K on a new tranny).
I have an appointment with the local Porsche dealer on the 1st to check the car out what should I ask the tech to do to make sure it doesn't have the pop out gear issue? Should I ask him to pull the tranny appart? Anything specific he should be looking for?

When you test drive the car, accelerate uphill in 2nd gear and when you crest the hill, let off the gas and coast downhill in second. Repeat this a few times and if the car will coast downhill in second from a range of rpms without any indication of the shifter popping out, it is probably ok.
I doubt they'd be willing to pull the trany apart - too labor intesive!

Thanks for the advice not too many hills around here
We just have onramps & offramps which can get a bit messy around here.
Any other way I could test the car? I'll try the hill method and see if that works.

Guess I'll just have to do a test drive tomorrow and then decide
If the gear pops out I'm guessing I should avoid the car like the plague?
