Dr. Bill,

Sorry but your numbers are off. The Euro Elise 111s has 156hp and weighs about 1,660lbs dry with AC etc. The Elise Sport 190 weighed <1,500 and has 190hp. My Lotus Exige weighs <1,700lbs and has 190hp. I have driven the new Fed Elise and would not buy one.

Just my .02 worth.

h20tt is infamous around these parts
The "new" European Elise 111R which is what the US spec Elise basically is(excluding airbags), weighs 860Kg(1,896lbs) and has 189 bhp and 133lb ft torque.I think the Elise will be a great car when it hits the US, cant wait!

Hey Dr.Bill, I am thinking about ordering one but Im not sure how the dealers will handle the price, ie overcharging, by the way we have actually met at one of the "funcars" meets you arranged last March had a blast , good luck with the lotus pursuit!

Dr. Bill and H20tt,

You guys should read the Road and Track article. The car tested by Road and Track was the European Elise (<1,600lbs), not a Fed Car. My point is, after driving the car tested, the 111s and the Federal Elise (and owning two Elise variants), is that the Fed Elise does not drive anything like the Euro Elise or 111s. It's simular to driving a stock Carrera and a Cup car, they are simular but the extra weight is huge.

The article refers to a car with 122hp, that's a standard Elise. The article also says it weighs 1,900 lbs, that's wrong. The standard Elise weighs 710kgs or about 1,560lbs. Check the Lotus site under, cars, pick the model, then tech specs.

Roy

FYI, from Factory data found at www.lotuscars.co.uk

The Elise, tested by R&T is 710kgs (about 1560lbs)
The Elise 111s that most people have driven in the US is 156hp and weighs 757kgs (about 1,665lbs).
The Fed Elise is not final but weight will be mid 1,900s.

That article is so old, they didn't even have the GT3 available back then, and the GT2 would be the old version (which they couldn't get), not the new 477 hp, re-tuned version.

most dealers are asking for one grand refundable deposit -up to the order being placed. guaranteeing MSRP and probably at this point be around 50 -60 on dealers waiting lists with a 2005 delivery. i think i made a good choice because Red Devil finally thought i made a sensible car decision

i agree with you on that note but I was referring to the Porsche turbo alone. do you agree that the turbo was likely a 02' or a 01' at least.... it's still impressive against a tt- of course an updated GT2 or gt3 would blow them away!

The new car is the Elise 111R, here is the Pistonheads release:

http://www.pistonheads.com/lotus/

Here is the factory release:

www.lotuscars.co.uk

The 111s is the old 156hp Rover based car; it's specs are on the Lotus Cars site here:

http://www.lotuscars.co.uk/template...._111s__MY_2002

I'm not trying to be argumentative here, just letting you know that the car that took 2nd in that test weighs about 400lbs LESS than the new Federal Elise.

What 'model year' has the retuned 477hp engine? The '03's I thought were still at 456hp, so is it simply the later '03's or are they considered '04's?
