Hi,

I had the AVIC-Z1 installed in my 02 turbo about a month ago. Awesome unit!.

Check Rennlist.org. do a search on on "avic". Someone there posted pics and instructions to install. I printed them out and had my installer use them. He also used a VW wiring harness so that it would be a cleaner install.

The Z1 has so many cool features. gets a little complicated, but much much better than any factory unit.

The Avic Z1 looks awesome. I have the Avic D1 in my machine.
Same form factor, being double din. I had to modify the slot, moved the A/C controls down to the top slot of the lower console, since my original audio was the standard single slot porsche CD player.

I spent an entire day frigging around getting it installed and looking ok. I moved the A/C controls to the top slot of the lower console. I want to keep the lower slot cubby hole open. I wish I could find a top slot A/C fascia since mine looks shabby at the moment.

I have to say though, it was not an easy install for me. It was mid summer here in California, I was sweating like a rapist and nearly ended up crying several times.

I have the AVIC Z1 in my X50. I had it installed back in July. This is an AWESOME headunit. Although, you NEED the bypass unit so may operate the FULL Navigation functionality of the system while in motion. I also have NavTraffic which is very helpful in the bay area trafffic jams. Here is a link to the bypass that you could purchase for the few dollars (no, im no affiliation to the manufacturer whatsoever) ... http://www.sminntech.com
