Poor FM reception?

My 03 TT has an upgraded top of the line Alpine head unit .( ibought it that way) It only picks up picks up the closest or strongest stations, I suspect the antenna booster not operating .
Can someone tell me where it is located and how to check it
Thanks in advance for any help.
Elliot

You have to make sure there's 12v power supplied to the booster. The wire is White (or Lt.Gray?) and it's got a small pug on the end that would have normally connected to your stock Becker stereo plug (maybe not on an '03). On all the car's I've dealt with, it's part of the antenna cable or affixed to it somehow. Follow your ant cable back a foot or two and see if it's there on your car, then just give it a 12v source (ign. on)

The Alpine radio has a power antenna output, solid blue or blu w/white stripe...it should be labeled on the top of the radio.

thanks,
I know in the older 911s ,the booster is a little black box located in the front trunk just behind the hood shock passenger's side.( hard to get at) Is it the same location in 996?
