Extended Warranty Pricing for 996TT

"""""""""
Hey Alex-
Here are some pricing options for your Porsche. There may be an extra charge for the Turbo ($150), but I'll need to give them a call to be sure.
The Mercury Product is the more comprehensive coverage. It has a higher maximum labor rate ($125/hour) but you pay more for it up front. The Buyer's Choice Product is sort of like the HMO version of health insurance for your car. Not quite as comprehensive with a little higher co-pay out of pocket and a lower labor rate ($90/hour). It will absorb most of the cost in the event of a major repair, but you will probably have to come out of pocket a little to pay for some of the overage.

FYI, the first number is the duration of the coverage in months starting from the purchase date of the contract going forward. The second number is the odometer limit of the policy (for example you get coverage from today for the next 48 months or until your odometer hits 60,000 miles). So the question becomes how long do you plan to own the car and how many miles do you intend to drive it?

Call me and let's discuss.
~Kevin

Mercury Gold

48 months/60,000 miles $1985

48/75,000 $2430

48/85,000 $2685

48/100,000 $3100

60/75,000 $2540

60/100,000 $3295

Buyer's Choice

36 months/75,000 miles $1005

48/75,000 $1050

48/100,000 $1175

60/75,000 $1095

60/100,000 $1220

Anyone know what are the specifics of the porsche CPO (months/miles) and are the coverages similar for comparison in terms of what defects they cover?

I will let you know today. My car is going in to get a PPI and the dealer said I could purchase a CPO warranty today for the car.

My car's CPO coverage runs out next March and I'd definitely be interested in purchasing an extended warranty. I have an '01 with 18K miles so I would think the 48 month/60,000 mile warranty would be ideal since there's no way I'll keep the car another 4 years.

Has anyone heard of Mercury Gold or have any on-line references are their stability and track record for repairs? Unfortunately it seems that many of these 3rd party warranties either go belly up after collecting a lot of premiums or are very aggressive at denying claims.

There have been several instances of extended warranty companies going under leaving policy holders holding the bag.

Are there any exteneded warranty policies underwritten by major companies where financial information is available?

I have the MERCURY platnium warranty. So happens my oil pressure guage
went south & the whole cluster had to be replaced. they paid 50% because
they wanted to get the old one repaired, I choose to get a new one & pay the difference. anyway with that alone I got half my money back!!
I also took the payment plan because its interest free, so if i get a denial
durring that time & I'm unhappy I CANCEL! Just be carefull with the fine
print, some dont cover internals!! because the whole point is, thats when
you realy need the coverage!

I was in on the Warranty Gold fiasco on my old '99. I will never buy another aftermarket product like that again. If you cannot convince a Porsche dealer to CPO the car, sell it. CPO should be readily available from any Porsche dealer willing to do it, for $2500 or less.
