The jammer or shifter as they call it works. Don't ask me how I know
You must be referring to a laser jammer and not a radar jammer???

Go with the V1.

It worked very well for the South Florida crew heading north to the Orlando, Fl meeting.

I use V1's in each vehicle and have for years.
The 8500 may be very good, but frankly until another detector can compete with V1 in all areas including counting and keeping track of the "threats" AND where they are, NOTHING will replace my V1's.

Lawrence, order your V1 and remote display ASAP. I've had mine for only a few months and it saves me all the time. Don't know how I ever lived without it. Like others have said, you won't be invincible but you'll be much better off. There isn't much you can do about helicopter patrols, lasers and instant-ons. Luckily for us in California the cops are not using laser very much. You still need to keep an eye on the rear view mirror for CHP pacers but if they have their radar on, you'll know they're there long before they notice you. The directional arrows are awesome!

Also, it's an easy DIY to hardwire the V1+remote display to your car.

Hiding the detector is really key to me, and this leaves the Passport SRX at the top of the heap according to testing. I will have on in my new tt and will be able to give experience then.

The 8500 can keep track of more than 1 target, 4Ka's 4K's and 3X's.

My V1 has saved me a few times since I got it, but like the other guys said, if you are the only one on the road and get hit by instant on, nothing short of a miracle will save you. I got hit this weekend with the instant on. When that happens, be polite, co-operative, and have your hands on 10-2 to show that your hands are in plain view. Officer clocked me at 94 in a 65 and reduced it to 74
