993tt vs Gt2

As far as the ride compared to a 993TT I cant reply, as stated Vince would be your best source. NOTHING drives like the GT2 no Porsche (stock) I have come across. Good luck and hope you get one soon and dont let her go.
Compared to a 997TT, there isnt any comparison. They are totally different animals.

993TT
I had a '96 993TT for 8 years before buying a 996 GT2 in June of this year. By the time I sold it, my 993TT was modded with H&R's, RSR sway bars, K24 turbos, GIAC ECU, FVD Intercooler, CarGraphic cat bypass pipes, 5bar FPR, etc, etc... It was an incredible car that (even when stock) did absolutely everything with perfection and subtlety.
GT2 Overall
The GT2 is a different animal as Bajo stated. It has NONE of the subtlety of the 993TT. For starters, it's loud. Probably because it lacks the sound insulation and rear seats. I don't know about your 993TT, but mine was well optioned and the GT2 is not. No power seats (or heated seats), no digital sound, sunroof, etc. Most of which are "who cares" items, but worth mentioning. Also, if you're a bigger guy (I don't mean tall, I mean fat), then you will probably hate the Sport Seats, they are super narrow. The GT2 is just RAW AS THEY COME. It feels like a race car, period.
Handling
Compared to the 993TT it has a light feeling front end, and a ton of rear end bump steer that the 993TT doesn't even hint of. To me, the combination of rear end bump steer and light steering makes the GT2 feel twitchy and nervous. Don't get me wrong, the GT2 is planted, but it takes some time to get comfortable with the "wandering" of the rear suspension. The GT2's limit is also easier to explore than the 993TT's because of the lack of PSM and AWD. The GT2 won't hesitate to step out under acceleration, and it doesn't under steer like the 993TT does. Because of this, the GT2 gives the driver more control at, and beyond the limit. When I pushed my 993TT to the limit and got loose, it was over. The GT2 feels like it prefers sliding and drifting, it reacts to every driver input and delivers. The weight difference is noticeable to say the least. The ride quality of the GT2 is stiffer than that of the 993TT, but it's not unbearable even for daily driving. Anyone of us who drives a sports car is already making that sacrifice anyway.
Power
My stock GT2 is faster than my modded 993TT. The weight difference and lack of front driveline makes a massive difference in acceleration. The GT2's power and RWD together give a driving experience that is much more like the early '70's 911's. Throw a few easy mods at the GT2 and you won't even be able to compare the acceleration between your 993TT and the GT2.
My $.02
I don't regret my switch to the GT2 at all. I wanted a car that was more raw, more powerful and rewarded me for my driving skills, and the GT2 does all of this. Even without the subtleties and creature comforts of the 993TT (or the 996TT), the GT2 is still an incredibly refined sports car that is easy and fun to drive. It never gets uncomfortable or annoying even in daily commuting or long road trips.
Other Mentionables
The telescoping steering column is a welcome asset of the GT2. I always had a hard time getting a good driving position in the 993TT, but the GT2 easily accommodates my style both on the highway and the track (I'm 5'9", 150lbs). I mentioned it was loud, but that's something you'll probably like after driving a benign 993TT. The exclusion of the sunroof is great too. I never liked the sunroof of the 993TT and I'm glad the GT2 doesn't have it. Also, the OBC of the GT2 is way better than the one in the 993.

Thank you for the time you spent explaining it. The problem now is not being able to get the GT2 out of my mind! It sounds like exactly what I am looking for.

Looks like you're already made up your mind in regard of getting a GT2. I personally think it's unfair to compare a 10 yr based turbos models to a newer GT car that originally MSRP $70K more. You and me both know how hard and expensive it is to extract power from our beloved last air-cooled car. The only way we can reliably get beyond the 550hp marked on these cars is with the 3.8L goodies and custom tuning which easily cost $40K.
That said, IMHO there ain't nothing like the power delivery of 3.8L air-coolded twin turbos . Even with just 1 bar of boost, the acceleration is so raw and brutal that it's comparable to that of my Viper SRT10 Twin Turbos. The car is so much fun on the street esp on freeways. The power is instant up to 130mph. Unfortunately that's where it ends. Even when the raw brutal power is achieved, these cars similar to the newer 4wd turbos will always be PIGS when compare to a GT2/GT3.
The GT2 have more dimensions than that of the turbos. Modding for more power is easy and fun but not as important on these cars. Learning how to drive it the way it should driven takes more priority. I have yet known of a GT2 owner who didn't respect this car nor find that it isn't challenging. These cars shines at above 130mph. Power wise, its low end torque is plain fun and nerving when tires break loose due to lack of TC or when powerslide thru the corners due to lack of PSM. However, it is the top end acceleration and stability that makes the GT2 exhilarating The car keeps pulling and pulling thru higher and higher gears.... Razor sharp handlings and offset by very happy rear end and bumpsteering makes it extremely challenging on the track.
All in all, both cars are awesome. But the GT2 is the one to be reckon with right now. I just don't to see there's another car on the current market that can bring what the GT2 can bring.

The 993T is a nice car - especially with some real horsepower.
But in terms of reliability and driveabilty you cant go wrong with a GT2..
It will out perform a 993TT on track anyday..... Not to mention its Modern Car..............

996 GT2, hands down.
I recently sold mine after 3+ years, and it is the best Porsche I have owned by far. I had and enjoyed my '96 993TT, especially with bigger turbos etc, by it doesn't come close to a GT2. My monster dp935 was a blast, too, but again, not comparable the GT2. Perhaps the older guys who come from trailing throttle oversteer, and no driver aids, are just a little more comfortable with it since it is better than what we had "back when". Also, I have posted this quiry before: have you ever read or heard of a GT2 owner that regretted having bought one?

Never have and probably never will either, no one ever complained they bought one !
GT2 Porsche GOD ! Next best thing Carrera GT= Super God
Gt2
The only ones complaining would be speculators and "must be first on the block purchasers." They bought at MSRP+ and realized it was more car than they could handle and then sold them. There might be some who could handle and appreciate the car in this group but these are likely the minority. That's why the 996GT2 is such a great deal today. Remember, only about 300 were shipped stateside.
