Dealer Refuses Emergency Service
Dealer Refuses Emergency Service
You gotta check this out. I was driving my car out in back canyons in Malibu, Ca. My car has not been running right. I did a PSS9 setup and at first the car felt good then I decided to tighten it up a bit...so I had my guy do it. Honestly after it was done the car felt looser then before, I mean really bad, so that going around turns it felt like the car was going to break loose. I thought I had screwed up the adjustment so on Friday I put the car on the rack(I have a Toyota dealership). and checked the settings. It all looked right so I decided to drive it a bit more thinking maybe it was just me not knowing how to drive with the tighter setup. Anyway to my point...on my drive back on Sunday the car started getting really loose so much that it scared me a bit. All of a sudden my steering wheel moved 30 degree's or so to the right. OK so understand this to go straight I had to **** the wheel to the right and as I went around a sharp turn a could feel 1 front wheel dragging almost like it wasn't turning. In addition my ABS ans PSM lights were flashing. Anyway I baby the car back to my garage so I can take the car To the local Porsche dealer. Circle Porsche in Long Beach Ca. I pull into the drive and the service writer comes up. I explain my problem. He tells me he can't even look at the car because I have a "aftermarket" suspension. I asked him if he knew that the problem was caused by the PSS9 setup. He said it didn't matter. If my car had any aftermarket on it the "Techs" wouldn't look at it. I told him the car was unsafe to drive...he just looked at me and repeated what he said. I have talked to a few of my techs here and they said what happened has nothing to do with the coilovers...might be the steering rack or a bent tie rod. Now the car is back in garage and I am going to tow it to a independent to repair...Can you believe these guys??? In my shop if I thought it wouldn't covered I would tell the person"look if its the aftermarket item it will cost this or that) I would never let a customer on the road with a unsafe car....
Any input???

Usually "aftermarket" is a code word for "we're going to try to rape you for as much $$$ as we can on this repair," not an outright denial of service.
Sending someone away with an unsafe car is unconscionable, go straight over this clown's head to the owner or general mangler. Talking to anyone else will get you nowhere.

I'd say you're better off at a privateer over the dealer anyhow. Of course as a dealer yourself you understand that the dealer can decline to examine or work on any out-of-warranty car. If he decides that there is not enough margin or too much risk in working on non-factory spec cars, I think that is probably his right, though it seems unusual to turn away biz. And I suspect he would say that it was your decision to take your car onto the road in an unsafe condition. You could have asked to leave it there for later towing and avoided driving it.

Wow, that's pretty bad! I don't see any reason why they couldn't charge you for the diagnosis and at least tell you what's wrong with it. I'm sure the guys here can let you know which dealerships are mod friendly. Which Toyota dealership?
Toyota of pasadena...
Your right he could have said look if its something with the aftermarket setup we won't work on it. I took it to another dealer today...it had NOTHING to do with the PSS9. It was a steering problem...
Anyway...I'll never service or recommend Circle...

I have experienced exactly what you describe with my cup car. One of the rear eccentric bolt was completely loose. After jacking the car up, I could move one of rear wheel manually around the toe axis.
If this is what is happening, all you need is a new alignment.

This is a reflection on the style of that dealership.
I took delivery of a new car from that dealership a few years ago and ran out of gas 5 miles out of thier lot.
They know customer service, don't they?

Though, this is the first of negative word about Circle that I've personally heard, it sure does seem like more and more Porsche dealerships are becoming unfriendly to their (potential?) customers. Porsche sounds like a company that has become too arrogant for it's own good. In some ways it reminds me of the recording industry. They didn't want to lower the prices of cd's and became arrogant. Next thing you know, people stopped buying cd's and started downloading it for free. Now obviously we can't download free cars (though that would be nice!), but eventually people wont want to deal with a car company that doesn't like or care about it's customers. In my opinion and dealings with customer service, a person that buys a brand new Boxster should be treated with the same dignities as somebody who buys a CGT because maybe one day, that person will later be buying a CGT.
