Good deal for x50 02?
Good deal for x50 02?
I met a guy through a friend who has a 2002 x50 he is thinking of selling. The car has almost 14k on the clock with clean car fax. He is willing to take 72k. I was going to take the deal but upon inspection the car is black and has alot of small scratches (15 plus or so small scratches at least a 1" long). Not sure if they can be buffed out or not. It has no dings and the interior is in good shape except the plastic sill on the drivers door has alot of scuffs (Dragging feet over it)! Not sure what that would cost. Is this a good deal? I see them going in the 80's on ebay. Not sure if those are prestine. Maybe I am just picky. I told him 69k. He was not interested. I thought if I need spot paint work and a good detailer that would offset cost and hassle.
Car is pretty basic besides the x50 package.
So am I a fool? Nice guy btw!

I think that is a great deal given the low miles. Black shows scratches and you'd be surprise at what a good detailer can do with a car. Low 70's is definitely good if that's all that's wrong with the car.
That will always be the problem with a black car. It will drive you nuts, so if you are that bothered by those scratches and the swirlmarks that never go away, don't but a black car.
This car seems like a good buy. Get a prepurchase inspection at an independent dealer ( not where he bought and serviced the car ) before you decide to do anything.
Good luck,
RG
