Very nice!! What wheels/tires were you running?? I'm curious 'cause we talked about that recently. BTW, I live in Del Mar, Calif.

Your car looks great. Tell me/us that the Mazda didn't stand a chance.

It was the cars first time out there so I decided to take it easy. Took it out on street 'trim' (yup 19" HRE 542R with Toyo T1R street tires, along with Stock brake pads).

Next time, it will be on 18" wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport Cups

It really wouldn't...it had half the hp and we were both on street tires (along with fairly equal drivers - we used to duke it out in SCCA but with more even cars ).

Hey Carlo,

Is that the 180 degree corner at the bottom of the new section? I'll bet that monster's a ***** to keep from wheelspinning all the way up the next short straight.

It's fun and highly addicting! However, I have gone through the whole experience and just enjoy it for what it is now. I don't want to hassle with trailers, spares of everything, etc. anymore.

Key lesson for me: Don't make your street car into a track car! While I know certain mods will make the car better on the track, only mods that will not compromise streetability will be done. I'll get a dedicated track car if I want something that will work really good on the track...

The third gen Rx7 is the best track grenade (the engine blows up) ever made.

I know from experience.

I have definitely seen my share of them 'grenade'. When they're working well though - amazingly great handling and power combo ahead of its time.

Rep for you!!!!

My favorite part was:

That's the great thing about a modded 996TT/GT2, you can drive it around on the streets, take it out to a nice restaurant and get parked up front, then leave and immediately go to the the track and decapitate dedicated track cars and then drive it to the dragstrip and whoop up on everybody there too...I LOVE THESE CARS!!!

Properly modded RX-7s do not "grenade" on the track. As a matter of fact, they dominated the Firehawk series. An inproperly modded car (too lean an A/F ratio or running too much timing) will detonate the motor & unlike a piston driven motor, there is no room for error.

Fyi, my RX-7 is a DD & a track car (its not a Porsche exclusivity).
