changed battery- radio wants a code

I changed my dead OEM battery in my 01 996TT to a lightweight Odyssey battery the other day but now the radio/nav wants a password. I did not get any manuals from the used car dealer that I bought the car from so I have no idea what I need to do. Do I need to make a trip across town to the dealer for this?

I did a search how saw that someone mentioned checking under the hood for codes but I didn't see anything.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You'll need to get the radio code from a Porsche dealer. You should be able to find someone to walk you through the procedure over the phone (they tell you which buttons to push to retrieve the radio's serial number, you tell them the number, they look it up and give you the code), as I don't think anyone can seriously believe someone would actually steal one of these POS radios.

Happened to me, give them my VIN, and gave (printout) me all passwords, down to the tech level. This is assuming everything is still original factory.

you'll need to call the service deparment with the VIN number and they'll spit it out for you.. or if you have access to a PST2.. That works as well
