Question Hoses or Hosed

I have had my car down for almost 3 weeks chasing a boost issue - long story short there was one cracked/split hose and another that was blown off and we are still chasing the issue (car is trying to run rich, boost goes to safe mode - ECU checks out OK). Car has about 36K miles, is an '03, has TechArt mods (ECU, mod. K16 turbos, filter, exhaust) for about 550 HP. I track it at PCA DEs and drive it dailey - on the street I'm pretty mellow, track is a different story. Other than TechArt mods my mechcanic is old school German and likes stock Porsche parts vs lots of other mods/pieces.

I've seen posts about "upgraded" hoses and am wondering if they are worth it - or just a bunch of color. Any experience or thoughts - obviously I still have a boost and poosible hose issue ...

No, they are not a bunch of color. The factory F hose will split. There is a seam right down the side and it is not if, just when it pops. The new hose is 8 layers thick, reinforced with nylon in-between each layer and tested to well over 40 lbs of boost.

The main hoses are a joke from Porsche. The ends have a dimple that is simply pushed out of weak aluminum. In time the spring clip that holds the hose in by wedging behind this works a wear mark into it. The hose tweaks and pops off. The new units have large CNCed ends that are a solid wedge and can not wear. They are slightly larger as well to ensure a good seated hose.

Porsche has also changed their design on the new 997TT since they new this was an issue. First the BOVs are not there, that is because of the turbos, they are in the turbos. Second the hoses use a new designed end that also uses a much larger clamp. The hose itself is a double the thickness of the 996TT hoses and seats in to the intercooler and y pipe by pushing past the service and sitting in a recessed port.

No, those hoses do not fit a 996TT. I just was making a comparison. We sell a heck of a lot of hoses. A split hose or two and a install bill and tow not to mention a pissed wife because your car died on the road is well worth the cost of the hoses. They are about 900.00. Or at least that is what we sell them for.

PorschePhd - Thanks for the quick response - is this a "full" kit - I guess I'm asking does this replace "all" hoses in the turbo chain or just ones that are thought to be "crap" (technical term) ?

Mike, I have the EVO silicone boost hose kit, got it from Bert Smith, they are WELL worth it and I feel are part of "maintenance" for these cars. They were more expensive but now I thing kit is around 1k.
Get that car fixed and back on the track!!
PS I am going to the Gold coast PCA Jan 6-7 at Moroso, come on over! tom
