Trolling for Ferraris
Trolling for Ferraris
The other night, I’m returning home from dinner with my elderly mother in the car. Turning on to Sunset off the 405, I see a 360 Modena Spyder in front of me. I follow him for a ways while explaining to Mom the significance of this. His engine is barking and howling, as they’re prone to, and he’s creating quite a spectacle of himself. I pull up next to him at the first light; respectfully, a foot or so behind his front bumper. (Now I should state here that I have no ego in any of this…but at a light, next to a Ferrari—and no traffic...) The light changes…we start out together…he hits it!...I do too. We’re dead even, though I can’t hook-up, too much wheel spinnin’ and rev-limiter bouncin’. This continues for a long-second or two--while approaching a 50 mph right-hander. I shift into second, full-power through the turn, knick third just prior to exiting around eighty….wind it up to red-line and back off as I approach a large kink prior to Deadman’s and UCLA. I’ve cleared-out....that Modena is 15 lengths behind me…and his nose doesn’t drop ‘till he’s caught up. We go-off together after the next signal—this time in second…….again, no contesto. He pulls up next to me when we stop again—grinning, big thumb’s-up; Mom’s giddy with adrenalin and laughter……I give this guy a big thumb’s-up too.
A few nights later, Mom’s in the car again—and we happen to be on Sunset. She says to me, “Maybe we can find some more Ferraris to put in their place.”
Just thought I'd share this.

That's funny. When I'm in my Ferrari CS and I run with a Turbo, I usually see the Turbo that far behind on a twisty road. Bottom line is who's the better driver and, even more importantly, who's crazier.
If you want to compare cars with the same driver on the same track, repeated over and over, see:

BTW, your Mom's one of a kind. My Mom won't even ride with me.

holy.. looking at the list.. even BMW Z4M and M5s are ahead of PORSCHE 911 and even the GT3??.. i'm guessing that track consists of a lot of twisties, since the turbo would go on and off.. but the GT3 not comparable to a Z4M or M5?.. damn.. i underestimated these M cars!!

You can actually go and set a time in your own car at that track, maybe I should go and set the record straight.

However, the track conditions varied greatly on some of the tests. I understand the some were timed on a wet track.

doesn't seem like the list posted is accurate either judging from the clip, also notice how wet it is when they run the porsche.
