I own an E60 M5 (or rather my wife does). There's no difference between P500 and P500S. The dyno proves the same thing. More info available over on m5board.com.

Nobody said it was a big deal or took alot of skill. All that was reported were the facts and that it was fun.

Stay tuned folks, them two are renting out a racetrack soon and hopefully it will be to your liking.
Like any other type of run with a E39/E60 M5 against a 996TT would be different, unless you are a firm believer that a 4 door sports sedan would whip a Porsche 911 turbo at the track as well. I dont get it.
We cant all be experienced race car drivers some of just have to nail it and win sometimes.

Nice kill rwm514 !

Sounds like you both had fun and enjoyed your cars who cares which model it was or the bench racing. Real life experience is all that counts! Nice run!

Man, nice run, glad you enjoyed yourself. Damn our Police here have a zero tollerance for spirited racing. They will immediately hook your car for exhibition and impound her for 30 days min... We have to be very careful, too many accidents with young adults not making the right decisions...

As an E60 M5 owner, let me chip in.

Stock vs. Stock - the M5 will hang with a turbo, and start to pull once we get over 100. Not hugely, but it'll creep, then walk away. Until we hit the speed limiter, and then the TT walks by, waving politely.

The M5 is very quick above 100, and has good gearing and aero for those speeds. A X50 or modded TT should have no trouble with one, however.

Handling-wise, there's no comparison. Coming from a 996 C4S, I'd summarize it like this:

The M5 has too much engine, not enough chassis
The C4S has an plenty of chassis, and not enough power.

well as a current owner of both a stock 02 E39 M5 and a stock 03 996 tt(non x50), I must agree both cars are pretty close when rolling at highway speeds giving an edge to the turbo but not by much. I say about 1cl up to about 160mph. so 8cl sounds about right for a modded tt as yours, but that's not saying the m5 you raced was stock. and as far as the speed limiter on m5s not all are created equal just ask me why and i will explain! anyway this may upset some of you but i'm just speeking from my experiences.

He stayed fairly close up to 80,then bye bye, great day out.

E39's can be quite fast with the bolt-ons though right??? Maybe not 996TT fast but a 400hp M5 (e39) with intake, headers, bypass pipes, exhuast, ssk, chip, etc would be a pretty fast car i would imagine.....not that TIHS ONE had those mods, but still...
