I've blown 5 MAF's while running a GT640 kit and GT700 kit in conjunction with the VFlow. (I can knock 1 of in just a couple of miniutes of hammering the throttle!) I now have the GT700 kit and the OEM airbox with oiled filter and have had no issues blowing the MAF I bought used from Markski.

I'm not suggesting the VFlow is the culprit here. The problem is that airflow drawn across the MAF has a direct relationship with the voltage running through the MAF. At HP greater than XXX? the thing dies. The OEM MAF draws too much current at that HP and burns the MAF out. What I don't understand, is why the MAF doesn't blow with the OEM box? My GT700 is making more than 550 HP, despite the OEM box restrictions. It would be interesting to know the answer. Hmmmmmmm........??????

Very simply maybe the mesh inside the factory box has something to do with it?

S Car Go Racing or Protomotive. I believe they are about $1,000.00 installed.

No, the stock MAF is rated for 485 hp.

Mike,

The answer is the stock MAF is designed for 485 hp. As in weak link.

I have found the same thing as Zippy. With the V-flow I blew 3 MAFs...took the V-flow out and have not blown one since...obviously same HP...you tell me

I agree - on a gt700 the car is fast enough w/o the VFlow - i've had no issues blowing MAFs w/ the stock box.

To the original poster - when the MAF blows, you lose PSM & ABS. in my car in the rain (or i'd imagine snow), this can get pretty scary.

I'm not disputing that for a second Chad. I just don't understand why I don't pop MAFs when I have the OEM box in. I still drive the car like I stole it - tickling red line multiple times each day - but that MAF won't blow with the OEM box. The MAF should blow, no matter what box is in the car, with a pair of GT28's sucking air past it - shouldn't it???

wbvega is infamous around these parts
Alex...i am thinking April-ish (aka Giants baseball starts again!) when i start coming back down to the Bay Area frequently, i will drop the car with you guys and have you do ECU, DV, Plugs and Exhaust.

SportHaus here in Reno says they have really only had issue with over oiling the filter in their experience. I like them, but i am not sure their pricing always seems a little high. Also, i had them install my TechArt Vario suspension and set the ride height, and pop on my new wheels, but i wasted a set of Continentals in the rear within 2500 miles because of bad camber settings. Their reaction was for me to just order new tires. I am posting something separate on this topic...

Great thread guys. Lots of good opinion. This is obviously a hot topic.

Bryan

Hi Bryan, no worries and we'll be happy to fix you up during the Baseball season. Give us a couple of weeks heads-up warning. We're about 25 minutes away from the A's stadium and about 45 from the Giants so you could certainly catch a game while we do your stuff

And since you have a Tip I can give you the low-down on a few easter eggs and how to launch that car... They really are quicker than the 6speeds. Gearing etc...
