Thumbs up 04 Upsolute Turbo back in action!!!!

Hey guys,
I am very happy right now. As everyone knows my car shut down while driving on Monday and has not started since. The ecu was quickly removed and sent out to Rene at Upsolute NA for a complete check. Ecu was returned to me the following day and according to Rene, was perfectly functional. Having ruled out the ecu I shifted my attention towards the fuel delivery. I first checked the pressure on the rail which turned out being non existant. I was now 100% sure I had a fuel problem. I knew the pump was working because I could hear it cycle everytime I turned the key. I then decided to check the fuel lines coming off the pump. I removed the cover in the front trunk and began to remove the fuel gage sending unit. As soon as I pulled it up, BAM, there it was..... not one but two lines were completely disconnected. I was relieved, but also disappointed that a brand new car would already have problems like this. I looked over the connectors and it is clearly visible why they popped off. The small retaining clip which is supposed to lock the connector in place once it is on the fitting is made of a very poor quality plastic. The plastic had deformed and was preventing the connector from locking into place causing the line to move freely on the fitting. There are two similar connectors on the top of the sending unit and they have much higher quality retaining clips in them. I do not know why Porsche used the lesser quality items inside. Well, after about an hour which including fabbricating new retaining clips from stainless steel, the car was back together. I let the fuel pump cycle twice and then cranked it over. Car quickly came back to life. At that point there was a huge smile on my face. Took the car for a quick spin and everything is back to normal. It's been a rough week, but I can rest easy now knowing everything is ok. I'd like to thank everyone that helped me out with this whole situation. Thanks PorschePhD for that last minute' "How to access the fuel pump" guide.
I snapped some very quick pictures during the process.....

Btw,
Rene upgraded the software in my ecu to version 5. This current version should take care of all the ABS and PSM warning lights that were being triggered previously. So far Rene at Upsolute NA has provided impeccable service!! Truly satisfied.....

You do of course realize that Stephan just helped you even though you bought from his competitor. What a nice guy!

A few more pics....
This is a picture looking down into the tank (notice fuel pump down low)....

This is a pic showing the alignment marks that are from the factory which help when reinstalling the sending unit....(I highlighted the arrow on the sending unit in the picture to make it a bit more visible)

Hey Mark , do I get a prize for predicting what your problem was ?

On a more serious note, I would have hoped that Porsche would have worked out this well known, common problem by now after 3 -4 years . I guess this is the " rear main seal " equivalent on the Turbo models .

Mark,

Great to hear your problem was resolved! I too just got updated with the latest version of Upsolute and the car is running FANTASTIC! No more PSM/ABS lights!!!! For the entire 60 miles back home, I was on the boost non stop and nothing but a big all the way home. I filled up with a full tank and in 60 miles...just about 1/2 a tank left! Talk about getting on the boost!!!!!

Btw... John Achille (North East Rep)....awesome customer service and very meticulous in handling the ecu, etc.

Now...if I can get that 1.1 or 1.2 bar program!

MKW,
Your prize is two thumbs up!!

BCS996TT,
I did not drive the car very long yesterday, but I did not notice any differences with the new software. The car was running great to begin with. This upgrade was just to prevent those two warning lights. Either way, I am very satisfied!!

Mark,
Glad to hear that your problem was fuel and not ECU related. I have an appointment with Rene this Wednesday for the upgrade. Can't wait.
When the lines came off, was there any noticable fuel odor? Not sure I understand why there was no fuel spillage with the lines coming off.

I am contemplating getting the Upsolute upgrade also. Can't decide if I should drive to Charlotted (about 180 miles) or take out the ECU and ship it to Rene. Do you guys see any major advantage doing this onsite?

No need to drive 180x2 miles unless you have the free time and enjoy the drive. I shipped my ECU to Lanny of Upsolute and got it back in 2 days. Lanny e-mailed me detailed ECU removal instructions including photos. It takes about 15 minutes.
