Weird noise, from front passenger side.

It sounds like a pump of some sort but neil informed me that it might be the fan, It only happens when crusing at highway speeds in 4th 5th and 6th (or at least that's when I can hear it). It doesnt really sound like a fan though, it sounds like a pump of some sort, any one else ever hear this noise?

LOL, sounds more like a groan, still suitable though. Better than a whine, 5th gear usually does the trick.

I had a problem with my Boxster where there was a groaning sound and after much research it turned out to be a bad carbon control valve. Try putting a piece of tape over the air vent in the gas cap door and see if it goes away. It drove me nuts, but was easy to fix -- if this is it?

When I go pick up the car from Neil, I'm gonna drive around until it comes back so he can hear it. Then he can fix it.....problem solved.

Is it a high pitched sound at low rpm in higher gears?

Did you ever put a piece of tape over the air vent (not the drain) inside the gas cap. This will eliminate the carbon control valve that cause my groaning/honking sound. The line apparently draws air out of the gas door area to eliminate the gas fumes? My valve was cracked and at a certain rpm would make a really annoying noise. As in EMBARRESING noise.

It is worth a try to eliminate this. If you don't want to do it, have Neil try it.

Roger
