Neil Orton to do Heavy Mods for my TT Soon

I met with Neil yesterday and we mutually agreed on a general course of action. Gave him some money and said make it go fast.

Will be replacing crankshaft, rods and cams, plus other necessary internals. Will have 2 or 3 E-Proms associated with the ECU for swapping programs on the fly. Probably a granny mode, a 93 octane mode, and a race gas mode.

Will have new turbos, MAF sensor, machined billet throttle body, injectors, fuel pump, lines and regulator, headers, exhaust system, intercoolers, LWFW, clutch, JIC Cross suspension, Nitto NT-01 rubber, and whatever else it takes to make it go, go, go. Will be doing full conversion to two-wheel drive at the time also.

I'm looking for a pair of black leather GT 3 seats and an X-braced tequipment roll bar to help the interior. If anyone has those items for sale, please let me know.

I guess I will need a driving instructor and a big block of wood to go under the accelerator pedal for awhile.

All parts are now on order, so when everything arrives, the games will begin. I'm excited about the possibilities.

I purchased a Performance Box, and when I get the courage, I will send some data to Kevin for evaluation and posting.

Al

Al....you are brilliant. If I just went for the all out engine build from the get go it would have been cheaper and less time consuming. You are doing it right...Keep us informed.I would be more than happy to look at your Pbox files.Kevin

Hi Dr. V,

I wouldn't call it an "all-in" car. We are currently not planning for any head work---not yet, anyway. There should be no R & D involved in this because Neil has done projects like this before. Remember the video clip from a run by a yellow TT in Korea? It made it to about 212 MPH in 37 seconds or so and had a terrible start in low gear. Think it is under the title with something about Orton You Old Darkhorse. If you haven't seen that clip, go back and find it. That car had some pretty good acceleration once it got into second gear. Neil said he had to back it down performance-wise on that engine because of the stock internals. Said it made hard power all the way to 8,000, but he chose a lower red line for safety's sake.

My engine will have different programs and he plans to set the red line at 8K because we're doing the lt. wt. Carillos, and other internal work.

I have already put the Nitto's on (235's and 315's) and what a difference in straight-line traction. This car has been chipped and has different exhaust system, and with the new rear tires that came with the car, it did a lot of juddering in low and would break the tires loose in 2nd. Now it just squats and goes.

I am not out to win the poker pot, or anything like that; there are already too many very very quick TT's out there. I just want a reliable power plant that gives me a thrill when I roll on the power, and I want to learn how to autocross. Bet it will be a handful for that.

AUTOCROSS

Please let me know when you do that one, and make sure everyone stays, far far away. I hope you will at least keep the AWD for that power if you are going to autocross and road race.

Sounds like the car will be a beast, I'll be stopping by Neil's shop to check out the progress, good luck.

Hi Markski,

Thanks for the input. I am leaving all that RPM stuff up to Neil. He said the Yellow TT in the video kept climbing in power past the 7.8K range where he capped it for sake of the internals. He is assuming mine will continue to climb up to and maybe beyond the 8K range. If the line continues upward sans head work, then fine by me. If it tapers off at 7.5K, or whatever, then cap it there. No need for extra valve train strain if it power isn't there.

Have you found enough good wx up there in Chicago to really give your new toy a full-bore run?

Best regards,

Al
