Stock headers
Stock headers
Well I am thinking of buying stock headers. I have seen them go on ebay for less than $100 shipped. Whats a fair price for stock headers? I am looking porting and coating a set. I can't see spending much more. I can buy a new set of headers off ebay for $600. With larger piping, mandrel tubing and equal length. I know some will not agree. I was waiting on another member here to tell me how they fit and performed. He was very happy with there finish.
As far as stock headers go I know I can do the porting myself. So my only cost is the ceramic coating which jet coat does for $250. SO my cost on ported headers maybe $350. I would buy a set of used ported coated headers also.
Oh yeah looking to buy stock headers
Thanks
Ralph

Jet-Hot costs about $300 for their ceramic coating. Make sure to indicate that you do not want the inside of the headers coated. When you get the headers back make sure to use a baby bottle brush to claen the inside or you will be very unhappy. As Jet-Hot sand blasts the headers before they apply the ceramic coating. This is easy to do and rennlist has a diy posted.
Thanks for the heads up. They just told me they thought $250 on the phone. Would you wrap them or coat them? I have done both wrapping is far superior for keeping heat in. I can atest to grabbing hold of very hot headers that were wrapped. I would not do this with coated headers
I was told ceramic coatings are sprayed on. If so How do they get it inside?

Just a note - it will be FAR easier to port and polish a new set of exhaust manifolds versus an old set that has been through some heat cycles.
Plus, you know what you're getting new, versus the possibility of getting a cracked set old...

The ceramic coating is sprayed on and it is standard practice of Jet-Hot to do both the inside and the outside of the headers unless you specify that you do not want the inside done. This was another tip that I got when I made my post here about a year ago.
Like the others have said do not get to carried away with the grinding. Try to just smooth things out and knock down the high spots. The right air grinder and grinding bit make life much easier. I got my bit from the Matco man. But Sears also has some stones that are cheap and this is what I used for the finish smoothing.
