I think the gearing is key...

and as others said, aerodynamics is also a HUGE factor in this...I would be willing to bet one could modify a STOCK engined turbo with different gearing and some aerodynamic adjustments to make the car hit 2buck...maybe some weight reduction for good measure as well...

Awesome video although I don't care for the color of the car. I also would have liked to hear some of the cars music instead of the dance trance!

200 mph on the speedo can be achieved easily, doesn't take too long with something like stage I

Real 200 mph needs a bit more

In order to obtain 200 mph (real speed) on a 996TT running stock 18" tire sizes and gears, you would have to raise the redline to 7000 rpm. Maximum factory limit is 190 running a 6600 rpm limit.

From what I can find online RUF Rturbo (just to pick one manufacturer) and Porsche 996tt gear ratios and final drive are the same. I don't know if RUF raise the rev limit on their cars, anyone else know?
But if they don't and gear ratios are the same, then does that mean an Rturbo 520's quoted top speed of 205mph is just theoretical?

This is looking to be a bigger challenge than at first glance

Notice that Ruf has a stock rear wing?

Are you assuming 6750 as the fuel cut or 6500? Most tuners have a 7,000 RPM program so we all have a shot. It might be fun to enter the Nevada challenge. I have no interest in sustaining high speeds, but a few long pulls on an open road would be fun!

When you see cars being pushed that hard and come away unscathed, you really come to realize that the short bursts of speed an commute most of us subject our cars to is really easy on the engine.

The RUF 590 AWD Rturbo does 221+ MPH, read it in a mag feature on RUF's website! They also retain stock redline!

My car could easily get over 200, i know it by the speeds i can achieve on short distance runs reaching 170 so far, lightweight and aerodynamics are also key!

491.764 hp by my math. Obviously the redline has to allow it but with stock aerodynamics that is what it would take. I assumed the stock car has 415 hp and will do 189. The calculation is fairly easy because the drag coefficients and weight cancel out because they stay constant when you mod the car for hp only.

I know bigger wheels would have an effect similar to having longer gears. Do you think a stage 1 plus 19 inch wheels would be sufficient?

The stock car had 450. We're assuming that you make peak power at redline?

I thought the stock turbos has 415 and the x50's/GT2/S cars had 454. If you use 454 hp and 189 you get 537.978 hp required for 200 mph.

If you ran 19's you would have to have something like a 315/30 or a 275/35 on the rims to get the needed ratio. You also would need more hp to push the same speed.

Unless the car you're driving has the aerodynamics of a farm tractor, you shouldn't need to hold lots of boost to sustain 180+ once you're there.

I've had my Supra in the 190+ ballpark without having to maintain high boost pressures to keep it there. ~0psi, with occasional shots of 5-10 psi to maintain speed will keep most turbo cars there unless they're running massive downforce or something.

The issue with most street cars maintaining 200+ is gearing, and the fact that in most cars you're spinning at (or over) redline to be there. I'd be much more concerned holding 8,000 revs for prolonged periods than 20+ pounds of boost.

Either way, as with any sort of endurance racing, you want the largest intercooler and oil cooler you can possibly fit into the chassis of the car in question.

Just found this site:- http://www.catherineandken.co.uk/sti/tyres.html
If you enter stock gear ratios for a 2002 996tt:
1st 3.82
2nd 2.05
3rd 1.41
4th 1.12
5th 0.92
6th 0.75
Final Drive 3.44

Set a redline of 6600rpm and my rear tire size is 315/25/19

This calculates a top speed in 6th gear of 205mph

Not sure how accurate this is but there must be others around to verify.
You can also play with the tire sizes and fuel cut off redline.
Not sure what size stock tires are but I entered 295/30/18 and it calculated top speed of 189mph....interesting.

189 was posted by an X50 car.

This is probably much closer. Basically you need more than stage 2. Maybe a stage 3 or 4.
