If you enter stock gear ratios for a 2002 996tt:
1st 3.82
2nd 2.05
3rd 1.41
4th 1.12
5th 0.92
6th 0.75
Final Drive 3.44

Set a redline of 6600rpm and my rear tire size is 315/25/19

This calculates a top speed in 6th gear of 205mph

Not sure how accurate this is but there must be others around to verify.
You can also play with the tire sizes and fuel cut off redline.
Not sure what size stock tires are but I entered 295/30/18 and it calculated top speed of 189mph....interesting.
I calculate just shy of 192 mph with your figures.

Lounge Lizard is infamous around these parts
You're right I was looking at the bottom of the page and it said 205mph, but it was for the reverse gear

If only

I remember going through some calculations when I supercharged my car. I thought I was going to get 490-500 at the crank (actually ended up with a little more), and I think I calculated, based on the 997's drag coefficient and all available comps, that 500hp in my 997 would get me around 202+ theoretically, but I am gear limited to 186-188 range.

I saw 201mph (speedo) in Mexico with my Ruf 550 before it got the UMW treatment. The car had a lot more to go but I ran out of road. I do have the taller 6th gear but the rest of the gearbox is unchanged. I can't wait to try it again and see how much faster I can get to 200+ ..in Mexico.

This what you can do on the autobahn if you have an R turbo:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wumlt9GtBLg

n.b we have the shorter 6th gear (i.e stock) but a raised redline of 7100, with top speed of 205mph, with longer 6th a 550 r turbo is capable of 350kmh or 217mph

all the best

It's really fun though.. like Autobahn for the USA
Not so fast. To participate in Open Road Events involving speeds over (I believe 175 mph) requires the car to be fit with a roll cage, fuel cell, fire system and properly rated tires.

That excludes about 99% of the members of this forum.

10 % more power equates to 3% more top speed.

Current power 420 BHP.

Current top speed 190mph.

So to get the extra 10 mph (5.3% lets call it 6 to be safe) you need an extra 20% power so another 84 bhp. Therefore 504 bhp is capable of topping 200 mph.

The 996 TT has a rev limit of 6750 rpm and does 28.8 rpm in top so to breach 200 mph you would need to raise the rev limiter to approx 6950 rpm.

Weight has very little to do with top speed, just how quick you get there, it's mainly a function of power and aerodynamics.

Disclaimer, I'm no mathematician or engineer so my calcs may be shot down in flames.

These cars pull hard up top too, listen Erik i hit in the 170's last night with rather ease, i noticed that i was shifting a little below or at 7k just like my older turbo with rasied rev limit. I was told that it revs stock? Do they usually raise it when upgrading??

even a 300hp car could hit 200mph if you stretch the gears out.
But you will be compromising your 0-60 time and etc...

Its all about the gearing. 911 TT have more than enough power to hit 200mph.
Aerodynamics come second.
