I like it, yes. The tail lights are cool, as is the nose. Early 90's Japanese boxy goodness.

As with most jap cars, it's not a complete effect or style that makes them interesting to look at. It's a collection of many little bits which, on the whole, make the car interesting.

An Evo IX is a better car than an R34... There are plenty of those BMI vids where Evo IXs destroy all kinds of stuff on the track. Not too mention the practicality of the Evo vs. Skyline, etc.

Finally, when I was in Japan, Skylines were like Mustangs whereas the Evo was revered. If you are a true JDM fan, then the Evo is where it's at in AWD turbo cars. In fact, they like S2000s more than Skylines.

That said, I'll keep my Carrera S, thanks.

The Skyline even got the jump in the video. Best motoring always tries to give JDM cars the advantage.

I will consider trading in my TL for an EVO X (if there was no big *** rear wing).

Gan-san (who I wish was MY grandpa) absolutely LOVED the Carrera S in the "Carrera Invasion" video. The funniest part was when the narrator dude tried to fill him in on the differences between the Carrera and the S and Gan-san dismissed him with a look and said, "Next thing you'll tell me the S is yellow..."

Good looking? Well probably not, I wouldn't say there are many if any good looking JDM cars.
But you have to admit they do have a certain road presence, I think the R34 GTR just looks like a big Pitbull..

Here's my old dog

Yep - I saw R34 GT-Rs that were beaters... interiors chewed up, etc. When I saw ONE Evo VII roll by, EVERYONE in the restaurant I was in (Curry House) stared at it. A good comparison is like a Z06 (Evo) vs. Mustang (GT-R) here in the States. Unbelievable, but true.

This is the only R34 I'd go for - Z-Tune! Of course, it cost $170K and only 20 were made...

Three or four years ago I bought several Best Motoring DVDs. One particular volume is what initially made me consider 996TT ownership. It smoked everything else: Ferrari 360, Skyline R34 GT-R, Corvette, Lancer EVO, NSX Type S. It goes in to great detail about the Porsche. The title says it all: "Porsche 996 Turbo, The King!"

Reasons to pick the R34 over the 996TT (performance and looks being equal)
If you:
-want more passenger and trunk space.
-live in an area saturated with Porsches (SoCal comes to mind).
-want something very few people have ever seen.
-enjoy the hunt for parts unavailable anywhere in your native country.
-enjoy working on your car or paying for mechanics to learn a new car.
-want teenage boys to gawk at you and follow you home on a regular basis.
-won't be satisfied until you own one.

Now that is one bad-a$$ car. I love it. I'd take it any day over any BMW sedan (saloon for you Brits).

I would wait for the upcoming Nissan GT-R (suppose to complete with 911s) or whenever a new Supra or NSX replacement hits our coast, but a 996TT or better yet GT3/GT2 would always be king of my stable.

Besides, you will get biased answers from a porsche forum.

RoadsterDoc: I've got two Britax in the back of my TT.

You cant trust them. If it was Veyron racing a modded R34, the R34 would win.

That R34 is a brutal, Mad-Max looking thing...completely different style from a TT
