Is the Skyline GTR R34 Better Than a 996GT2?
this is the problem with the whole "which car is better" question, especially where hardcore gearheads and iconic cars are concerned. there's always an implicit list of criteria and assumptions that determine the right answer.
stock vs stock, i think things are pretty clear cut:
GT2 is faster in a straight line
GT2 is faster on a track (assuming the driver is skilled)
GT2 is more luxurious
GT2 is more expensive
GT-R is faster on a twisty, bumpy mountain road (unless you're Walter Rohrl)
GT-R is faster/safer in less than perfect conditions
GT-R is marginally more practical
which one is more "exclusive" or more "prestigious" depends on where you are, and what your biases are (e.g., euro vs JDM)
as for looks... always a subjective thing. what looks to be a muscular street fighter to one person, is an ugly boxy 80's throwback. and what looks to be a bona fide supercar to another, is a glorified VW beetle to someone else. coke vs pepsi, or something like that
now, once you mod things... well, all the rules go out the door, at least as far as performance goes.
there's a 6speeder on here whose R34 GT-R would likely give VRAlex's and Markski's cars a good run. and in AWD TT guise the 911 can be as sure-footed as any GT-R.
to me, they are both great cars. and the fact they're so different just makes me wish all the more that I had both in my garage.
- straightline performance vs performance in the twisties/on a track
- stock vs modded
- exclusivity/rarity
- luxury/comfort
- prestige
- tuning potential
- price
- driver aids vs no driver aids
i'm sure there's more that should be added to that list, but as each of us will have our own particular "weightings" to the above criteria, and the answer therefore can be very different.- stock vs modded
- exclusivity/rarity
- luxury/comfort
- prestige
- tuning potential
- price
- driver aids vs no driver aids

As most have already said I wouldn't give up a GT2 or even a tt for the Skyline but if you could add one to your stable it would be fun. I think it is cool looking in a brutish sort of way. But the Porsches are much more car.

I own an 89 skyline gts-t (2.0 L single turbo RWD). Its a great car for sure but no comparison to my Porsche in many ways. Even if it were as fast in a straight line (with it sure isnt) I would still opt for the Porsche.
But, I also owned an STi before the Porsche and I only drove the STi when the skyline was in the shop for goodies or when winter arrived.
Skyline is a great car in its own ways...sometimes its nice to hop into a car with no traction control or ABS and have more of a "raw" drive. But there is also no comparison between the R32 GTS-T and the R34 GTR

I've replied on gtr.co.uk.
Here's a couple of videos with my 700bhp R34 in though, some donuts and also some high speed running (the night run hit 199mph on GPS, which is why the brakes are smoking when we stopped on the autobahn).
Roadtrip to the 'ring in 5 GTRs:
http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?...65194&hl=en-GB
My donuts:
http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?...95547&hl=en-GB
Donuts cost me a centre-diff, rear-diff and two rear tyres........

Finally, when I was in Japan, Skylines were like Mustangs whereas the Evo was revered. If you are a true JDM fan, then the Evo is where it's at in AWD turbo cars. In fact, they like S2000s more than Skylines.
That said, I'll keep my Carrera S, thanks.
