Easy or Dangerous Battery Charge?

I read in the manual that we can access the positive terminal of the battery remotely in the fuse box by clamping a jumper cable there and the negative cable on the driver's door latch striker. This was for an emergency unlocking with a dead battery on the 996TT.
My question is can I use the fuse box terminal and driver's door latch stiker to safely hook up a smart battery charger like a BatteryTender?
Will it work to keep my battery charged and is it dangerous or foolish to do so?
Thanks.

Yes, the cig charger is easier, but I already own several BatteryTenders and would rather not have to buy more chargers if I don't need to.

Maybe you could buy a cig lighter adapter for one of your existing battery tenders (maybe about $10?)? It would be way more convenient, and maybe safer too.

Just by the cig adapter and splice it to your Tender versus wires and clamps all over the place. I find that for me, this kinda stuff needs to be as simple as possible or else I never use it. I have the OEM cig trickle charger and plug it in if I think I will not be using the car for a couple weeks.

Thanks to all. After some thought (something I should have done earlier) I realize I'd have to leave the drivers door open to connect the charger to the door latch striker for ground. And that would mean my door has to stay open, and that would mean the lights are on drawing current from the battery that I am trying to charge. So I guess it's time to stuff something into the old cig lighter and pump up the currents. Thanks all.

JimDarcy;
Thanks. Looks interesting. I have seen other versions of this but not with the cig lighter plug.

Check the Sears website. they have a battery tender/charger for 30.00 bucks that can also plug into the cig lighter. also comes with a 3 year warranty.

Just checked and they are temporarily out of stock. Looks like a good and inexpensive unit. Thanks.
