PPI in Dallas Area?

I started reading 6so long ago (longer than my join date indicates), but mostly lurked since I wasn't really ever a Porsche owner until a year ago, and never had a Turbo, at that. But it looks like it might finally be time

Can someone recommend a shop to do a PPI in the Dallas area? Specifically, I'm looking at a car in Weatherford. Is the local dealer competent? Is the RUF shop in that area? Any thoughts appreciated. I'd like a dealer who's well informed about things like the 2nd gear pop-out and who won't miss something big like an engine imperfection that might cost me big down the road. Specific mechanic recommendations encouraged!

Thanks!

Contact Hans Hoffman at Ruf. Their PPIs are thorough and fairly priced.

You might also check into the mobile PPI by the Auto Critic if getting to a dealer is not possible: http://www.usedcarinspections.com/index.htm

Thanks for the advice guys - I'll call RUF tomorrow! A bit further than the guy's dealer in Fort-Worth, but hopefully he won't mind.

Now, here's a follow-up I'm curious about: If I fly down and pick up the car, how are the tags handled? In Virginia, and I'd presume everywhere else, the tags come off the car when you sell it. I've been nice enough to let me have people let me drive it with their tags to the DMV whenever I've bought a car in the past, but that's a little trickier when the DMV is 1400 miles away. Will Texas furnish me with some sort of temporary tags for the trip back to Virginia?

Cheers,
Justin

Tags go with the car in TX.
As mentioned above, call Hans at RUF, he's 2 miles off the Bush Tollway.

The tags won't go with you since you are taking it out of state, but the dealer will provide you with a temporary tag good for 21 days so you have time to register it in Virginia.

Justin- if you are buying from a private party, not a dealer, then stop by the DMV in Virginia and pick up temps there before you fly down to pick up the car. Are you driving it back?

I give my highest recommendation to RUF, great bunch of guys!

You can take tollway, exit Beltline, West on Beltline to Midway, North on Midway, Left on Commander. They will be down the stree on the Right.

Keep in mind that temporary plates are only honored by the state that issued them. While they may just let it go, that's the 'official position' of each state. That's one of the reasons I decided to have my car shipped vs. picking it up and driving it across multiple states. Too much of a hassle.

If you have the sale papers with you I think you'll be fine. Its not like you're driving a POS car with primer and bondo on it.

In Texasthe plates stay on the car when it's sold, unless they're personalized. Weatherford is over an hour from Dallas.
