EVO Air intake on ebay

I see there is a used EVO air intake for 996tt on ebay. It's ending in a couple of hours. The seller claims it's in good condition and the pricing is under $200 when I last looked.

Would this be a good addition to a stock 2003 996TT?

What's the value of a used one? Under $200 seems cheap.

Is this something most shadetree mechanics could install?

Are there any negatives to installing one?

Thanks.

Do a search you will find a lot more information. Some people blow MAF's with this intake others have no problems. If it is under 200 yes that is cheap as I believe it is 800 from evo...I havent installed this particular intake before but i cant see it being difficult to install in anyway, Im sure you could do it yourself...

stay away. It's proven to cause MAF failures, which is more annonying then the power gains are worth. Stick with your stock box.

OK. Thanks for the prompt reply. Sorry to sound naive, but what's a "MAF"

Thanks.

OK. Just read up on the MAF posts here and now I am even more confused.

It's either an issue with this particular air filter system, the variation of temperature the car is driven in, or the amount of power above the MAF's designed power level. Or none of the above????

I guess I'll pass on the ebay auction and figure out the theory of relativity (how does stock compare relatively to mod?)

I was out w/ 2 EVO stage 4's last night: One had a blown MAF, one didn't.

That is about right.

I would only buy the EVO inake if it came w/ the Protomotive modified Mustang MAF.

PS: not EVO bashing...the stage 4 is remarkably fast.

M=Mass
A=Air
F= Flow (sensor)
some tuner/mods have been struggling with this (blowing MAF's)
for way too long.
Some others do not have problems.

I have an EVOMS V-flow and haven't blown a MAF, my car ran 6.4 60-130 and multiple 10 second passes with it in. EVOMS has a cheap and easy fix for the blown MAF problem.

The bidding went up to $300 and, after reading all the scary stuff, decided not to bid. Oh well.... Thanks for all the feedback. It's nice to know there are so many out there with this kind of knowledge and the willingness to share it.

Nice.
