996TT Limited Slip Diff question

Was a Limited Slip Diff a factory option for the 996TT? How can I tell if equipped?

to my knowledge the original AWD set up doesnt really need the limited slip due to the distribution of power for the AWD set up. when some guys go to the RWD set up for this car you do not have a "limited slip" in the rear. This is then added to upgrade your RWD setup at a good increased expense.

Thanks Tom,
I understand that the AWD system directs some torque to the front wheels but, wouldn't adding a LSD to an AWD turbo help from side to side?

Have to admit I am no tranny expert just giving you the info I have received while looking into the RWD conversion. Again, I really think in true AWD trim all the PSM and yaw control and AWD work in synergy. But I'm sure someone on here has done it!

Did some research for ya and it is an option on the 997TT option 220, I dont know about my car.

here is a little more from somewhere else from a search...

Porsche's front-wheel drive axles come in if the rear differential starts to slip. So theoretically, one could do without. but why not get the LSD for the $950 and by pass all that rear-wheel slippage on wet pavement or going into tight turns. I am surprised not available with auto-trans, but who needs/wants absolute traction with slush-trans anyway. The factory installed LSD doesn't interfere with the cars PSM and PASM systems, but installed later may interfere.

Thanks again Tom,
I'm certainly no expert. Just trying to get a better understanding of how it may or may not work. I appreciate the info.

The LSD option was available in the ROW market for the '05 996 turbo S.

Probably to avoid inducing more understeer, which these cars are not in shortage of already ! I drove once for an hour a 997S fitted with the sport chassis and the optional LSD, and this was a real sleigh. No way to carve a smooth curve in that thing, the front would push wide all the time.
