Help wth headlight switch (hurry it's getting dark)

My parking lights always come on, but I have to go back and forth many times to light the headlights. How do you remove the dial to see if I can see a connector problem before I go to the dealer? Do I just pull on the dial to remove it, it feels like it will break when I pull on it? thanks in advance

Pull it out as far as it goes, then use a small flat head screw driver on the bottom (there is a slot) to release the tab, and pull it out. then you will see a silver nut holding the switch firmly in place. Also there is a torx screw somewhere in the black plastic part.

I know you think the problem is the lamp switch (and it may be) but.........keep in mind that one of the symptoms of a bad (or going bad) ignition switch is similer to what you descibe also.
A test for that is........move ignition key back a tad (or forward) from the running position......see if it affects your lights.....good luck.
