Track Days

There have been a few posts about track days, and the season is almost upon us.

Some resources:

TrackSchedule.com

TheTrackSchedule

Motorsport Events Calendar

For those that have never attended one, and would like to know what to expect:

RSR PCA DE Manual

This is a checklist I use to make sure I've got everything I almost forgot:

checklist

And I'm not suggesting you go racing at a DE, but in the spirit of learning car control, this might be of some insight:

rear engine 911 bias

Hope it helps.

Any questions?

Hey Moderators,

Maybe its time to make a Track Day forum topic. I bet there would be lots of us who would frequent it.

Good post helpful to all interested in track events (I wish everyone on this forum did at least one track day!!!!)

How about that for a poll..........Have you ever driven your car on a race track?? And if the answer was no, why not????????

If Dirty Mac up there can safely take that perfect specimen of a car of his to the track, no one has any excuses!!!!!

I don't think that admission of these facts would be a good idea. There are warranty and insurance issues for this kind of public testimony. Sad but true. I only track my *other* car.... ;-)

Ya me too, I only track my other car. By the way, I should mention that any pictures of my car on the track were Parade Laps. Everyone drives single file at speeds of around 20 MPH. Isn't that true, Tom.

It would be funny (although not surprising) if Porsche wouldn't warranty a track car especially considering how much advertising they do implying that its what their cars do best. And at the Porsche Driving Experience part of their shpeel during the course is telling you that the car is made to be taken to the track. And then there's the fact that they were made to be driven on the Autobahn which would be the equivalent of taking the car on a track every single day.

Insurance on the other hand is a different issue. Does anyone know if any company covers track damage?

Insurance varries State-by-State check your policy.

There is a firm doing it - Laurel DE insurance
offer 30 track days coverage and I believe 15% deductable - expensive, but give $130K sticker vehicles, maybe not..

BTW, American Collectors insurance got out of it last year - lost too much money...

Depends completely on your relationship with your Dealer's Service manager and his relationship with the PCNA District manger. We're very luckly here is Cleveland - have great dealers that support PCA and events - as well as enthusiasts.

But they won't (and can't) cover bone-headed mistakes and blatent abuse or consumables...

Great choice. That car is a blast. Love the engine. Are we talking 996 or 997?

Well, my car is out of warranty, I track the hell out of it and whatever goes wrong with it I pay to have it fixed, that's my plan, your results may vary!!
