It doesn't make any sense for Chrysler to produce this car. Good for them!

A shot of the ME four-twelve from the NAIAS

I don't know what makes sense anymore. 500ps+ cars are mainstreem nowadays. Afterall wouldn't this be a MERC based vehicle?
Anyway my next car will have to be a lot lighter than the TT. Anything below 1200kg (2650lbs) would be great.

EL, your figures are slightly off. The ME4-12 prototype weighs in at 2880 pounds. This is still very light, hwoever what you quoted was McLaren F1 territory, something that I don't think is possible with today's safety standards.

Also, the car is slightly Merc based. AMG fully built the engine as per Chysler's specs. I'm not sure if they started from scratch or something they already had. The rest of the car, however, is all Chrysler.

congrats chad!

after just getting back last night from the factory CGT leipzig drive, i can confidentally say you made the right decision. the stock CGT will kick the living schit out of these modified turbos. and, it will look and sound ten times better while providing excellent reliability. the two examples (3600 and 7500 kms) that have received nothing but track abuse since birth, have allegedly received nothing but tires and pads!

btw, the GT3 was considerably more impressive than the GT2 which was considerably more impressive than the turbo. this is obviously just a track setting and the turbo gains a lot of points on the street for comfiness.

ps, the cgt motor has been detuned from 800+ hp to ensure bulletproof reliability. should you get the urge to play again with this car from a modification standpoint, i'm sure you could achieve a lot more power than you did with your turbo. fwiw, they said they reduced the rotional mass by NINETY% in the CGT! i just love people modifying 3500 lb 650 hp AWD turbos thinking it's all just about power and weight. no one on this board has created a turbo remotely as free reving as the stock CGT and the turbos will redline out near 7k while the CGT effortlessly continues it's howling scream to 8k+!

ben,

I agree with your evaluation. A really well modified turbo though would give a good fight imo. On the other hand I would justify moding a turbo for 50k or so but I would not touch the CGT. Still regardless of performance comparisons a modded turbo provides a lot of fun @ 1/3 the cost of a CGT.
