High Speed Handling Question (Attention Cary!)
Ken,
I almost forgot, there is a huge round piece of rubber in the a-arm out by the ball joint where the forward link connects that would be the first thing I'd get rid off. It won't affect road noise and that's where a lot of that movement you're seeing on the dyno is coming from. When that rubber flex's it allows big toe changes. Then bumpsteer the rear on both sides separately. As they go into compression there is a point that where your camber gain goes crazy and effects a lot of other things however, I think you have more of a bump issue. I'm out to California Speedway again to watch the final race and will be back later. I'll try to take some pics of my car. I have all adjustable link in the back of my car as well as the kinematics link that allows me to adjust the caster in the rear. I also have to say I think there are some shock issues ... I'm really not all that impressed with the PSS9 as a performance shock but, I don't want to start too much on that. Most people use them to lower and balance their cars and they are better than stock shocks...but, they don't have really good dynamic control over the spring in extreme usage.

Ken,
I have to tell you, I just got back from California Speedway and I drove my turbo out there today. I was going about 85 to 90 most of the way on really crappy occasionally getting to about 110 and the car feels really stable. On the way back as I was leaving there is a long road along the side of the speedway and a friend of mine was in front of me with his 360 F1 and when he saw me come up around 40 mph he couldn’t resist nor could I so…off we go to about 145 mph in the parking lot … I have to tell you … the faster I drive this car the MORE stable it gets. I’m really impress with how planted the rear of the car is and that’s with the 335 rolling pins in the back which I would think would tend to make it wander. I still think you need to check those things I talked about and see what’s going on. If I get a chance, I’m going to bolt some 19’s on my car just to see what they do or better yet I call Hartmann because he all my stuff on the back of his car with 19’s on it. Cort seemed to really like that car in the shoot out too other than it didn’t have sticky tires on it. It’s sounding more and more like you have some funky geometry going on back there.

ABS Question
to quote Cary: >I retimed my ABS but I don't think it's doing my AWD much good<<
Cary,
I have an ABS issue that drove me crazy the first few times it happened. I am told by Ruf to ignore! At any speed above 205 mph the ABS warning lights up my panel. Ruf says ABS does not understand speed above 205 mph and the ABS will recover as I slow to a speed below 205 mph. Each and every open road race I run I get the ABS warning light. It was a huge distraction I have learned to live with but I do wonder if the threshold trigger upper limit can be safely raised to say, 212 mph? I have tested my brakes several times by moderate braking down to 200 then pushing the pedal as hard as possible and ABS does function. Need to cycle the ignition to clear the panel light. Comments please?

R,
You got me on that.... When I retimed mine I just made new timing wheels for the axles that had the right ratio and that seemed to do the trick. I'll ask a friend of mine that works for Bosh in the ABS department and see what he says. I can tell you that I've been in a modified 959 in Germany in access of 220 mph and I don't remember the light coming on.
You said you stood on your brakes at 212 to kick in the ABS?? You are a brave man! yeah baby!!

Thanks Cary
Let me be a bit more clear: Braked very hard from 211 mph sort of slowly standing on brakes. Works really well, as Alois said it would. Brave? NO! I am a Ruf believer!
I wish Ken could ride in my Ruf at speed as a point of reference about true high speed stability on a crappy Nevada road. I think Watt has posted a picture of R "high fiving" his navigator son at 208.5 mph.The picture was from a video clip when Mike and I knew we had done multiple 200+ traps to gain entry in the "Roger Ward 200 club" a part of Nevada ORR. Point is, I was so relaxed at that speed I initiated the high five and never knew until I watched our video.
Many thanks for your reply. I can live with the panel light, having seen it more than 100 times. First time was a total mind ****, youknow? Going so fast and the panel lights up but we did a sanity check at slower speed and decided to continue. We ran four traps that day @ 203+ with the light on.
