How many miles, which oil and when?
There is soft evidence (I've read) from doing serial oil analysis that the most wear occurs soon after you change your oil. The wear metal levels increase the most in the first few hundred miles. Some theorize that new oil causes more wear. It could be that the wear metals increase because the fresh oil dissolves deposits containing the wear metals.
I know the rattling noises most cars make for a few seconds after an oil change make me cringe. It might be a good idea to crank the motor with the fuel pump fuse pulled until pressure builds.
BTW Mobil 1 0w40 has more acid neutralizing Calcium sulfonate than other Mobil 1 grades.

On the additives:
Oils that are designed to go for longer change intervals will have bulked up additives- like the BMW LL03 cert, or the Audi extended use cert... but we all likely don't run to 15k, so I don't worry about additives that I'll never use. To me, having the LL cert, or having more acid reducing additives is of no concern as I won't use it.
