I've got modded 65mm VTG's on my car right now, Drivers Source built out the mods we are working with Protomotive on hardware and the tuning.

So far car is making pretty good power on intitial tune 600whp/600ftbls @ 21psi, fueling is still a little off so haven't gone to crazy pushing it. Car is pretty quick and it sounds pretty wild when it's spools up and blows off boost.

Basicly spools like a K16 and makes power of K24/20 up top.

Thanks, sounds nice! Do you have pics about the build / installation?

I was waiting to post up pics and performance results till I have the tune and some additional hardware tweaks completed.

There are quite a lot hardware modifications and custom parts to make this conversion work. I believe Steve at Drivers Source plans on offering a "kit" when it's all said and done.

I'd like to know this too. The VGT's sound pretty promising. Don't they cost a ton though?

Since I am probably the only guy runing this setup right now, I'll chime in.

Below are a couple of Dyno runs while working on baseline tune with ProtoMotive. To be honest we struggled to get a decent tune at 1st, the two pulls below show the last attempt with MAF and the 1st attempt with MAFless. As you can see there is alot of potential, Hp holds well to redline and spoolup is pretty crazy. The MAF tune was always a little flacky especialy with partial throttle drivability issues and would have a little hickup as seen at points along the curve. I finaly recieved a MAFless tune today that has PSM and ABS functional and the driveability is fantastic, so expect some stronger race gas #s to follow.

Blue is the MAFless vs Red with MAF both are 93 octane running on wastegate spring pressure only.

Nice results, why would you choose this route? A billet16 based car makes more power and seems like it would me much easier in terms of plug and play and tuning (tuning for sure)

Based on personal experience this car would absolutely WALK a 16/16g car. I'd bet the farm on it.

A billet based car. Not based on those pump dyno numbers, AMS kitted cars are putting down over 550whp. So based purely on dyno's alone, it wouldn't appear thats the case.

Again, I'd like to hear from somebody who went this route and installed, not someone who went for a ride in an equipped car. Im interested to understand why these turbos over the traditional lineup.
thanks

Since when have dynos done multiple thousands of miles away from each other been good grounds for comparison? My car made approximately 150whp then cars that went 2 mph faster at the mile. Dyno's don't mean ****. Not bein a dick I just put ZERO stock in them. Those numbers were also at .9 bar. Waaaay to many variables to even think about doing an apples to apples comparison.

Again those pump gas #s are on WG spring pressure only, just a pull to double check the A/F's and boost response without EBC auto tuning. Soon as ambient temps around here cool off a bit we will hit the dyno again and push the boost to safe max, along with some race gas pull as well. When it's all to my liking I will start a new post with more info, pics and dyno's.

As to why go this route over some other canned setup? We just wanted to try something a little different. My goal was daily driver 500whp on pump and 600whp on race with great low end spool up but not be choked up top. We should hit those #s pretty easily is my guess. When you see the A/R hot side of the VTG's compared to the K24 side by side the VTG's are much bigger.

To put it in perspective my previous setup was factory K24's, 1bar WG's, and EPL 5bar tune. With the K24's at 18psi vs these at 15psi and falling without EBC, on the same dyno it spools 900rpm sooner, has much fatter area under curve with 20-30 more Ft.lbs across the board and 50 more Hp at 6,500 rpm. So believe me it will shine when we crank up the boost and timing.
