Do any of the intakes or air filters add any performance at all? Any sound improvement? Comments...

I asked this question a while back and was told the performance increase was a few horsepower and there was no sound improvement.

yep. no big deal. This 'technology' is too simple and cheap
for porsche to have left any real horsepower behind in their
design. If you massively alter the motor so it's pulling in lots
more air, then maybe there is something to be gained, but
anywhere within shouting distance of stock and you should
"don't worry, be happy".

Throttle response seems improved noticebly. You need a free flow exhaust as well.

The air filter difference is equivalent to variation in stock engines off the factory line. It may improve a few hp but that may get you the same overall hp as your buddy who is strickly stock and got luckier with a stronger engine from the factory by chance. The benefits in sound AND hp come from altering exhaust and headers. But to really change hp you are talking ECU change which requires exhaust alterations anyway.

Agreed!!! That's more important than a nominal gain in hp, imo. I do have an improved exhaust, but I did that before the filter. When I put the filter in the revs would rise and fall much more freely than with the stock. A BMC is $120.00 well spent...

Doesn't it effectiveli allow more "dirt" into the engine? What are the implications?

Who makes the BMC? Never heard of it. I thought K&N was pretty much the "standard" ... how does BMC compare?

Here's mine. Not pretty but it does work and gets more air into where it matters. Requires you do some DIY, use a GT2 tail and remove the back panel, dremel the air box and remove the fan. MPH was up in the 1/4mile and it makes a BOV-type sound that cracks me up...

Hehe but you need a CF (well not CF) GT2 wing to get more air as each side has an inlet as well as the underneath the tail I have a CF cover panel which holds the fan and blocks entry to the airbox.

The trick is as Stephen and Todd pointed out NOT to just cut a whole in the airbox and then leave the decklid covered. That will get more air in, yes, but hot air, which you don't want. The way I'm doing it, I'm getting cool air from outside throught he decklid and the inlets.

PS I take no responsibility for damages if it rains! Heck I live in California and it hardly ever rains, except when Stephen & Kevin come out to work on my car....

PPS Stephen got me another airbox which wasn't too pricey so I just switch them out which takes like 5 minutes if I think it's gonna rain.
