I'm in the same boat (looking for a Pcar, not deciding on wife or secretary)

Here's one- price it a tad high, but it is a private party and they may be more flexible.

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...1&cardist=1437

It will cost more to mod the car than to buy an X50. BUT, if you'll go past an X50 + software, exhaust, intake, then why bother? (ie once you need to replace the X50 turbos)

Good luck

A

Ok......now another twist. [and I promise this is the last one, don't want to wear out my welcome early!]

This thing will be driven every day to the office and then some. Probably 15-20K miles annually. Perhaps I should reconsider the mod intent, or at least ask the question: How finite is the line where modifications decay the reliability of the car?

I'd hate to turn it into a monster then not be able to turn the key and go where I want to, every time or at least close to every time. Maybe just shoot for the above mentioned setup w/ x50, then add exhaust, sftwr and intake?

The reality is that I probably just don't have the time to get into the track side of it, but I sure do want the damn thing to be as lighning fast as possible. Oh yeah, and I'm driving it every day. Make sense?

HA HA, welcome! DO you get the sense they want to see how hot the sec is? Anyhoo, like BBGT2 said the car is very reliable and I have been driving mone for 3 months now more often than not and drive her hard and had NO problems! Previous owner took care of her and I am doing the same thing! In fact it is almost time for a oil change...

go without the X50 and mod the hell out of it...trust me when I say there is a wealth of knowledge here and total willingness to help you spend your money! LOL

Welcome aboard, and best of luck with the TT. I too bought a new car (GT3) for my midlife crisis and promptly placed this license plate frame on it to show everyone that I was secure with my advanced age. My wifey frowned on the thought of a little nurse hottie to go along with it!

I agree with the group. If you're going to seriously mod get a non X50. A X50 is a better choice if you plan to keep it basically stock, but it still needs some minor mods. The stock exhaust and suspension are a total disappointment.

Mr. Al, regarding tuners in ATL, I've only heard of one, Orton Performance, off Exit 13 on 400. Haven't used them, but have heard some good things.

I had my heart set on an X50... but after 7 months of searching I couldn't find the right combo (features, color, X50, price)... so I resigned to doing the mods myself.

Wouldn't you know it, one popped up in a classified ad (newpaper) in Madison WI and 48 hours later I had a purchase agreement!

Exhaust, tune and new audio/nav and I will be good for some time.

My point is to be flexible, understand what you are comfortable doing (so people have a hard time with the 'first mod'... although you'd never know it reading here!) and be prepared when the deal comes along. Factor in the costs for what YOU want and be ready to pull the trigger.

GL

Wow-
Been a while.... I bot a 2002 basalt black on black w/ 38K miles for 58K a few months back. Car had Upsolute chip, no other mods. Manual tranny, white gauges, aluminum trim, sills, etc. Crest in seats, heated seats, etc etc....nice options-tastefully done when ordered new.

In two months here's what happened:
19" Champion RG5's and Michelin's appeared at my door
Fabspeed moderate went on
New clutch kit and LWFW was ordered and received
New suspension arrived and in garage
Stage 2 kit is coming in one week w/ new turbos, et al
Clutch kit, suspension and stage 2 kit are all going in at same time.
Will replace clutch acumulator, slave, I/C hoses, back end coolant hoses, coolant tank, etc. while doing the work.

Once I get the car running "like it should," I'll move to the exterior via new spoiler and front end cap.

Problems:
Front left radiator leak
headlight switch
clutch slipping

Chip and exhaust are nothing more than "gateway drugs!" I justify it by incessantly telling myself "It's cheaper than the boat.!!!"

Tom.
